I know in tucsons they are located on the radiator support, just below the bonnet latch (right smack in the middle of the radiator) They also have a 'smog' sensor that puts the climate control into recirc when you have a smelly car in front of you.  Only the 'Hopman Cup' Tucsons have climate control in Australia I believe, but I remember seing it posted in a tucson forum ages ago

My mondeo had the sensor behind the front bumper; my megane had it in the drivers door mirror. Dunno where it is on the i30

I thought it was in the brake light cluster in the top of the hatch, ans I've had the rear end sit in the sun ona  freezing cold morning, and have the outside temp display spike upwards a few degrees. Besides if it was in front wouldnt it be affected by the motor heat??

If you look inside the front lower grill you'll see two of them there, don't know why there's two of them.

Maybe one is for the air quality sensor thing like in the Tucson forum.  Does the climate control on the i30 have the air quality feature?  I still havent taken delivery of my i30 yet...
