Headlights to short (how to level 'em up) ...

Hi,

I have a problem regarding the length of low beam of headlights on my i30. Is it possible to
manually set the height of beam of light? (it is set to max. on the setup button left to steering wheel).

It was higher/longer when the car was new. (11 kkm on his clock now).

Anyone has a similar problem? Any suggestions?

Grab a Phillips head screwdriver. It's the one with a + at the end of it.

Have a look at the back of your headlamps.

In the green, you can slot the screwdriver down untill it stops on a cog. Just turn either way to manual adjust headlamps up and down.

You can do this without removing the headlight unit.

Do you have a headlight adjuster?

On the right hand drive car it's by the right knee.

It's the rotary on the right. The left one alters to brightness of the light on th instrument panel.

Swivel the rotary knob and it moves the beam up or down.

Ah, Yes. Point taken.

That's 1 of the things missing from the new site - Location isn't entered unless it's put in the "Personal Text" in the "Forum Profile information"
Is there any way that a Location can be set up as a default?

Most are RHD except the few who drive on the wrong side of the road and without the location being shown I've just assumed RHD.

So would expect the panel to be by their left knee.

Yeah..this was one of the major issues discussed in Korea too once..

Factory setting headlights were too low, and if you got lower suspension or stuff like that..got even lower..couldn't see anything in dark

It can actually get dangerous during night driving.. if anyone feel it's too low you really should adjust it.
I adjusted mine about a inch higher .. shines much further now..

open the hood without removing the headlights and adjust them with long screwdriver

Hi guys, thanks for the hint. However still I am not able to adjust the height via this way. Is it enough to remove the hood? No unplugging or anything else is needed? I tried with some general Philips screwdriver based upon the hints here, but I was not able to adjust the height of the lights. Maybe my screwdriver was not long or narrow enough?! Can you post maybe a more precise photo here (or just resend the original size of SergeyZdravko?)

I'm pretty sure blue is just a narrow hole/tube which you stick a long phillips screw driver down to adjust the cog which is in the red section.

Correct! I have just adjusted the headlights on my new UK (2011 model Czech built) i30. Car was uindriveable in the dark with little to see on dipped beam.
You need a long star headed /philips screwdriver to adjust the knurled /castleated wheel in the red ring of the pictures. Cant remember whether I turned it left or right. The adjuster is silver coloured on my lamps, not black as the pic. An earlier instruction suggested that the screwdriver go vertically down a slot to engage with this adjuster - but mine were blocked with a trapped cable so I attacked from the side.
Other thing you need is darkness, a car park etc with a wall (ideally bricks so as to gauge the level), a head torch to see what you are doing, and maybe some masking tape to mark the level on the wall. Park the car facing & 15 ish yards (metres for our non UK pals!) from the wall so you can see the dipped beam pattern clearly and off you go. I adjust mine, with interiror adjuster set to zero, so that they are nearly horizontal, ie pointing forwards & just a little down - that is ideal for country lanes etc, and I lower the lights with the interior adjuster when in town /traffic etc.
Next will be Xenon bulbs I think.

Having just purchased a new i30 cw trophy in September 2010 but only started driving it at night (me) in mid December ..... even on full beam they were rubbish ... but problems are now solved and thanks again guys

OK i have a solution

Pump the front tyres up to 100 psi and the rear to 2 psi. should do the trick.

For anyone contemplating this: some added info.

You need a long phillips screwdriver. At least 15cm for the metal bit excluding the handle. I think a no. 2 phillips is ok. Took me a lot of searching and asking friends to find a suitable screwdriver.

Also, turning clockwise raises the beams.

I parked my car about 2 M from a wall and adjusted my lights about 3/4 of a inch up the wall from the original position... I will test tonight ... hehe GREAT info!
