Has anyone try this mod?
Not the turn lights but the ambient light.
This will be my next project.

No, I haven't.
Ages ago I bought a pair of the mirrors with the indicators in but never got around to getting them fitted.

I wouldn't imagine they'd light up much of the ground around the door. Prepared to be proved wrong tho, so good luck :D

If I may make a suggestion, if lighting the ground is your objective purchase some adhesive backed led strips and attach underneath the door. They will be closer to the ground and deliver more light & run the full length of the door. It seems a pity to cut into your mirror housing at all, it lights up the wrong side of the door too.

The mirror indicators that I purchased and installed from korean auto imports http://www.koreanautoimports.com/store/product_info.php?cPath=31_529_270&products_id=2993 came with 'puddle lights' as well which are the ambient lighting. I think that it is great especially for the passenger side as it allows you to see puddles, if you have dropped something and other things that are on the road at night, also, because no other cars have it, it has the 'oooh aaah' factor as well.

Some owners here fitted led strip under the doors for lighting the ground, indeed.
And some installed camera under side mirrors, in addition to their front & rear camera.

The drivers mirror is ready, tomorow i'll make the passengers mirror.
Photos i'll upload tomorow.
It is very beautiful and useful.
The lights comes on with two ways, when unlock the car or when a door opens.

I have only had one car with door mirror mounted puddle lights. They were fine when you approached the car because they illuminated the ground outside the front doors - but they were ineffective when getting out of the car because with the door open - the ground where you were about to tread was not illuminated.

Another of my previous cars had internal lights under the door pockets to illuminate the ground and car floor. These worked fine for when you were getting out - but not for getting in.

I suppose the ideal solution would be to have both.

  • Sorry, but my karma just ran over your dogma.
Thanks for the pics, nikitas.

I have a few questions for you.

1. Do you have the auto closing mirrors?
2. Where did you tap the 12v power from?
3. How did you seal the LEDS so no water can get into the mirror housing?

1. Yes i do.
2. From the dome light,i passed the wires throught the door harness.
The door needed to be taken of.
When i was istalling the wires for the door lights,i came up the idea of installing the mirror lights.
3. The led strips are waterproof,

I've still got it on the "To Do" list, or the "Task Matrix" as I've heard it called.
Not sure yet if I'm changing cars and if I don't, I'll fit these. If I don't, I'll give you a yell.  :)

hi nikitas
did you have any difficulties taking off the mirror from the housing? i need to replace my broken side mirror cover but to unscrew the cover it seems i would need to take the mirror off.  not too keen on flicking it out with a flathead screwdriver as the mirror might break.

You will have to take the twitter off,to unscrew the mirror's housing screws.
There is a harness,unplug it.
Take the mirror off with your fingers, your fingers must take off the glass from the car's side,it is very easy, there is nothing to be afraid off,and to unscrew the screws inside the mirror.
