After much searching and phoning around I located a place that can install cruise control on both the petrol and diesel variants. 'Ho...hum' you may think, but wait for it. The controls are on the steering wheel, as per the factory fitted item. In all intents and purposes it looks like a factory fitted original item. And that's good enough for me

This is their website (Cruise Control Specialists): http://www.cruisecontrols.com.au/
Their number is 1300 551985

As soon as funds allow I will be going to Sydney (from Canberra) to get it done. Nigel from CSS quoted me $850 for supply and fit to a diesel, but I'm not sure about the petrol/cable version. $850 is still cheaper than the quotes I was given for the other non factory looking items. Those quotes came in between $950-$980.

Hope this helps anyone looking for a factory looking c.c

Nah. Still M.I.A.
In a way I should thank him for pulling my finger out and sorting this out myself

Assume you must have an SX. My understanding is that they need to replace the clock spring.?? Are you getting the stereo controls at the same time?

Hi dacho,
Yes I agree considering it is only about 1.5hours work to install one. If Hyundai Australia ever got their finger out and produced a kit it would probably cost about $900 too. By the way, I like your colour. I have a white one now, and I transfered all the bits and pieces from my previous grey i30 to this one. I'll put some pictures up one of these days. Looks like we have something else in common. I'm Croatian and I studied Architecture at Zagreb University for a short period before returning back to Australia. Long story. Zagreb is a beautiful city. I miss Hrvatska. Puno pozdrava iz Australija

Hi 2i30s,
Yeh I know. I didn't have the luxury of having one specially ordered from the factory. It would have taken too long.

Hi duke 750
You're touching on something here. The kit Cruise Control Specialists oder in not only comes with the factory cruise buttons, but it also comes with the factory wiring harness, which splices off to the steering stereo controls. Now Nigel from CCS said that he also attempted to make the steering wheel stereo buttons work for another client, but couldn't get it to work. He sensed there was something missing. Now you bring up this thing called a clock spring. I have no idea what, or where that is, but do you think this is the missing link?

sounds good m8, i think i payed $750 for my aftermarket cc it works fine, my car is sx so looks ok as no other controls.
interesting is that my friends new 5 series BMW has the CC on a stem so does my sisters M Benz 200 compressor. but my falcon ute came stock with cc on the steering wheel audio controls one side cc other side. makes no difference to me as long as they work. mine works fine, but i'm used to useing a cc. if your learning just be careful. also i would not use one with petrol , i like them with a hi torque @ lower rev motor.

Thanks Lakes, but I should point out this is my second SX i30 diesel. On the first one I had aftermarket c.c installed and I know how good that was. It was great, and had no problems-even after 98,000kms. The only problem was that I had it installed from the dealer before delivery so I was charged like a wounded bull (as they always do). For this second car I wanted to organise it myself for cheaper, and get a more original looking result. I guess it comes down to personal taste now. Whilst driving around in my first car it annoyed me thinking how Hyundai Australia couldn't supply a c.c. kit themselves. Their loss now.

Good luck with all this.

I find it amazing that the SX does not have wheel mounted stereo controls. They are standard on the entry-level Getz!!!!

Yeah... you wonder who makes these decisions (it is a safety issue after all...)

At www.hyundaiboard.de I found a link to the OEM manufacturer (?) of Hyundais cruise controls.

http://www.dancar.dk/Technical/Default20.aspx
Click on Hyundai at brand menu and you'll see PDF-links for fitting instructions. These instructions seems to include the Hyundai part numbers for parts you need to purchase/replace etc.
Maybe you can save money with that knowledge.

Hi Eyecon,

Did you end up getting the CCS kit installed? Assuming you did, how is it? Undistinguishable from the factory installation?
