Glad your issue is finally sorted (we hope) but commiserations on your bad day and hopefully the court case judgement is the right one.
Hi @Gazza-75 , ah mate, dunno if you've ever served on a jury but it is eyeopening to say the least.  And I say this as someone who MANY years ago went to court as a defendant in a trumped up assault charge case & who's brothers death (run over by a driver on meth) is still presently before the courts.  So I have seen a bit - and was still shockingly underwhelmed by my peers on the jury in a multitude of ways.

Let me just say there is one LESS child molester on our streets and I could not be happier. ;-)  Alas I think pretty tight rules about what jurers can say, even in completed cases.

I was unable to read any parts of the invoice (excellent redacting),
Ugh - yes sorry but the forum attachment limit is 150kb!!!  In 2024....  Which is crazy and makes text based docs near impossible to upload to the site feasibly.

so was wondering if the DCT, or other, firmware was re-applied and/or upgraded? I know the ABS ECU/Motor unit also has firmware and was wondering last night if that may also be a possible fix, not that Hyundai would ever admit to that.
I specifically asked them to update any firmware that needed updating on the entire vehicle. Specifically asked about the DCT and engine computer (simplification I know but wanted to be broad) - actually told them not to worry about the headunit (radio/GPS). They CLAIMED they checked the entire vehicle and nothing needed doing except the head unit, which they say they did.  Did not apply a charge for this.

So I dunno - only time the firmware anywhere could have been done was ~2019 - but not sure if I could really check - so have to take their word for it.

Was the $496 for the 2 hours labour and the wheel speed sensor?
Yes, thats correct. Find it hard to believe it's a 2hr job considering they say ther initial scan indicated rear left ABS sensor fault.  Even if I say that took 30mins, it took another 90mins to remove, test & replace it? Pleeze.

Don't get me wrong, but you can either charge a crazy hourly rate ie.g $150+ an be accurate with the time taken, or charge a more understandable rate eg $100ph - and overrate the time taken - but DON'T do both.

I previously checked my front wheel speed sensors but never got around to the rear ones. I will try and find some free time today to inspect/test the rear ones with a multi meter (should be a simple voltage increase when wheel/hub is rotated) and report back. Failing that, I may just bite the bullet and buy one from the wreckers near my mechanic.
Funny the scans by my mechanic didn't pick up the wheel speed sensor, but I also believe that those can't be tested unless the car is actually in motion, and he only ran tests on my car while it was stationary.
I admire your technical nous. Bear in mind the root cause of this may not be the same - as you pointed out - similar codes/error lights are linked to the ABS electrical issues.

I have to say I do find it an act of corporate bastardry that Hyundai have programmed the vehicle firmware in a way where as stated earlier, the majority of VERY significant vehicle safety features were completed disabled by such a fault.  I KNOW some systems are interdependant - and while it may not seem obvious, they could rely on each other.  But why is the vehicle's Cruise Control, Stability COntrol, Forward Collision protection etc disabled...?  Sure they'd be less effective if you have to brake as you'd not have ABS braking - but should still work.

Seems like Hyundai deliberately ensured that if one part went down they all did - hence the consumer was forced to sort out - instead of putting up with just one system being out. Any intelligence would say that the systems should be as independantly stable from each other as possible i.e if one goes down, others will still work - Hyundai went the opposite. A coincidence? I think not.

Thanks again BobW and hopefully your outcome, albeit expensive, helps the rest of us sorting out our issues. I will also keep everyone updated with my findings, and hopefully a fix too.
Look forward to how you go - your posts and those of others were far better than mine, so appreciate your efforts greatly. Cheers.

Good evening. It is possible that you have a blockage in the pump filter. This link shows how to access it

Morning @Bob.W ,

Glad your issue is finally sorted (we hope) but commiserations on your bad day and hopefully the court case judgement is the right one.
Hyundai service departments can also be their own special kind of hell and I'm still recovering from my last issue of failed spark plugs.

I know the ABS ECU/Motor unit also has firmware and was wondering last night if that may also be a possible fix, not that Hyundai would ever admit to that.

Hi Bob, just saw your post yesterday.  Sounds you had one of those "bend over, touch your knees and try not to cry" days.

As a result, I had a stern talk to my car's left rear wheel speed sensor. ;)

EDIT: I have now realised that this is page 2 of this thread and I seemed to have missed the lot?  No matter, as after having a very quick read of the earlier posts I have nothing new to contribute.

Good evening. Here is a link to a video on how to darken the rear tail lights without losing transparency:
