Hi,
Looking at the General Tire brand - General Tire Altimax Arctic - which gets very good reviews.  I'm in Canada and have to deal with a lot of snow where I live so it's winters and summers.  I was reading another post and somebody mentioned that sticking with 195 as opposed to 185's was prudent.  However, I've heard that in snow, a 185 will actually perform better as it cuts through the slush/snow to grip better.  Anyhow, would love to hear from you savants with any advice you may have

General is owned by Michelin these days so should be fine.
The comment about a 185 cutting through the slush better than a 195 has some merit. In mud or snow the narrower the tyre the better for exactly the reasons stated.
Slightly lower diameter might mean a slightly higher tendency to spin though.

Hi

I use 185/65-15 winthertyres on my i30 with no problems. Even though we do get snow here, I'm sure you get more in Canada.

I don't know the brand General, not sure it's on the market here in DK.

I've often used Continental, ContiWintherContact, they have done very good.

I've never used snow tyres here in Perth and I have to say I've never had a problem.
