I have a bad feeling about this squeezing of the Russian economy and the tampering with the North Korean internet (could end in tears for all of us) These things have a habit of escalating lately..  :sweating:

The last time oil was this low $us per barrel,
petrol in Sydney sold for $0.80 per L so why is petrol prices still so high?

I think that the falling AUD hasn't helped.  Also, the cost of oil is only part of the cost of fuel at the bowser.  For example, the cost of refining the oil would have increased (rising wages for all).  The excise on fuel has increased.  Profit margins on fuel for all concerned would have increased as well.

I'm sure all true, we don't know how much tax state to state, i remember when Bob Carr was NSW premier he wanted to fix the roads up, so said he will put a 3 cent per L fuel tax for three years then take it off, that should be enough to improve the roads, call it 3x3.

then three years on Bob say's no i can't take that 3 cent per L tax off we need more.
Then gets a private company to fund a motorway with a Toll to cover the cost user pays, no more mention of our 3x3 .

QLD used to give the federal 10cent fuel tax back so the fuel in QLD was 10 cent cheaper but that seems to have stopped too and them & vic are the states that invented toll ways the E ways ( barstards  )

Geez John.
The Sydney Harbour Bridge had a toll on it when I first visited in 1967.  :disapp:
The Gateway Bridges weren't even on the drawing boards back then.

BTW. Is there a statute of limitations on non payment of tolls? 'Coz I set off a heap of alarm bells when I drove across that bridge without dropping money in the "correct change" basket.

Diesel prices are still lagging badly. Some places have gotten to 99.9c/L for E10, but diesel is still at 130.9c/L or so. It is ripping us off, as the relative price difference as a percentage between petrol and diesel has increased.

Also for premium 95RON I see that the price difference from e10 remains at about 14c/L more expensive (or about 10-11c/L more than 91RON). I remember when I first got a car which required 95RON in 2002, the difference then was only 4c/L from unleaded which at the time was about 75c/L. Again this price differential should be decreasing.

Unleaded circa 107.9 ppl and diesel 111.9ppl.

Stiil going down with crude circa $45 a barrel and falling

But why is domestic gas and electricity prices not falling?

Been a long time since I can remember a petrol price war
For the benefit of our Euro (and other) cousins, here in Australia a "price war" usually means who can get away with charging the most...

Anyway, SE Australia, region called Gippsland, prices vary, but diesel is around $1.30/l with ULP going for around $1.15/l.

When I bought the i30 in Nov '11 diesel was $1.46/l. It hasn't changed that much over the past 3 and a bit years, so this is the first time that it's dropped any significant levels.

For me it represents a saving of around $8 a fill. Better than a kick up the arse, eh?

Here in Oz, it's matter of different energy markets. We are a nett exporter of natural gas. Also export lots of black coal. However, our energy costs in these areas are set to rise significantly, particularly for gas.

We're the only country in the OECD which doesn't set aside stocks for domestic consumption. So, it's possible that, aside from paying through the nose for the product, that we could also suffer from shortages as the foreign owned energy companies such Oz dry to feed the likes of China and other developing nations.

As for the rising cost of electricity, that's another issue and a more complex one, not necessarily related to the cost of crude oil, given that the majority of our power generation is from black and brown coal, but with increasing levels of renewables (wind, solar, hydro, etc.).

Here in SE Australia the average cost of power is about 20 odd cents a kilowatt hour. What are Britons and Europeans paying?
