It has been the best day of the Spring so far today, good enough for me to spend the afternoon treating my baby to her Spring clean.

The usual bumpkin attention to cleaning took place and I reckon she looks better than when I bought her!  Note also the Heko wind deflectors which I fitted some time ago but neglected to post for you :-[

Really looks great. If I were to buy a second car right now (that price range), I would (most probably) go for the ix20 or the Elantra.

First problem with this one :'(

I had noticed after the last "service" that the handbrake had not been adjusted, but since it was only a little slacker than when new I decided to leave it and ensure that they adjusted the brakes properly at the next service.  Over the last week or so the handbrake had become very slack whilst in the off position, although still holding the car with no problem on slopes.

Took it in to the dealer and left it with them (they gave me a wee white i10 for the day), phone call later in the day to say that they had adjusted the brakes but could do no more as they have discovered an issue with a rear brake caliper which needs replacing (this is happening on Friday).  The car is safe and was returned to me, but I am concerned about the dealers servicing, given that the handbrake is now MUCH better than when she came out of service and that is with a fault!!

Is it common for brake calipers to fail after 8000 miles, it's certainly something I have never experienced in 25 years of car ownership?

Brian, I'd be asking them for details. Tell them to explain to you what exactly is wrong and also why, if the caliper is faulty, the handbrake is now OK.
But on the positive side, at least they're being pro-active.

Is there any chance to go to a neighbour/nearest independent service (not dealer) for a check?
