Yes I did but it's only since you posted the above that I realise it was a hy car

I noticed it and watched the rest of the programme expecting them to put it through its paces. Instead they spent the time making a stupidly contrived film about The Sweeney and wrecked some nice cars at the expense of us TV licence payers. (but my TV licence will be free after March...Yipee)

I do wish someone would produce a TV programme to suit the average motorist and major on testing cars and accessories that we can all afford with just the occasional test of exotic vehicles.
 
Perhaps it would not be seen as "entertainment".

Top Gear tried that route with testing everyday vehicles and being purely a "motoring" programme when they had William Woolard, Quentin Wilson and Tiff Needell ( or Tiffany Dell as I prefer to call him) back in the 1980's.

The program was dull and was nearly pulled by the BBC completely....

I can't see how it would detract from the appeal of the programme if they devoted a third to affordable family and sports cars, a third to exotica and the remaining third to their "amusing" stunts.  It would be nice to see tests of 5 similar vehicles from the major competitors each time with a proper comparison of their respective merits

What actually happened when they last tested affordable cars was that the manufacturers stopped providing vehicles for tests because of the extreme terms used by JC and his mates. If I remember correctly, Vauxhall were the first to throw their toys out of the pram when JC made diabolical comments about the Vectra - it was quickly followed by other brands.  The Vectra may well have been a poor car - but it deserved constructive criticism not mockery.

I vaguely recall they then tried to get around the manufacturer's ban by organising a test drive with an unknowing dealership armed with a hidden camera, microphone and pursuit vehicle for external shots. That was a boring farce and they dropped the idea.

Top Gear is hugely successful world wide so I doubt they'll be changing its format anytime soon.
Alan, I understand what you are saying but I suspect that the majority of the viewing public wants entertainment when it comes to cars. And Top Gear gives that.
The car makers can't expect to have it all their own way either. Toyota has traded on the "Indestructability" of the Hilux for years now since Top Gear's "test" of it.
One other point I think is that, given time constraints of television presentation, I doubt enough real information can be imparted in an "on air" test. Potential buyers who genuinely want to know about the features of everyday cars can source the information in much more detail in the print media.

Guess it was a sneaky way of plugging it, who knows how my emails they got asking what car it was

5th gear is a bit more realistic  yeah, but I think there trying to be topgear too much at times now.

they still stick to the motoring news which is nice

yeah tad uneconomical, but if it makes ratings,
guess though there may be un known reasons why those cars are wrecked

remember they wrecked a Mitsubishi lancer once, however it was a drug dealers and had been seized, so was going to be wrecked anyways.

And Vicki hypen-ated drives me nuts.
She sounds like she's having an orgasm every time she gets behind the wheel.
And I read somewhere that TG outrated FG by about 5 to one so I guess I'm not alone.

As much as people may or may not like TG, creating a with different people doing basically the same thing, is an invitation to compare. I too find the 5G people irritating & it hardly got a look in at my house.

Was rather interesting i thought, Hammonds was excellent, even though it was slow, done the job rightly, and looked rather fun.
Had to laugh at the end with May getting challenged by a small step.
