I noticed on the way home tonight the steering seemed to feel slightly heavier than usual - I figure the tyre pressure could probably do with a check but I was wondering (stupid question alert), the tyre placard of course talks about "cold tyre pressure" but how am I supposed to get the car to the servo to check the pressure while keeping the tyres cold??  :P

the tyres wont heat up that much just going to the servo.  how far is the servo from you.

Not that it's a big deal, like surferdude said, but you could overinflate the tyres and then let the pressure down next day before driving the car. Note that users on this forum regularly run higher pressures than the placard suggests. I run 36 psi

Okie dokes, thought that might be the case but was just interested in getting some other opinions - might try 36psi and see how I go, the petrol station is only about 400m away  :P

Me too, 36psi all round. I use a 9v plug in mini compressor so the tyres are cold

The placard always showed low pressure, so tires worn on the outer & inner sides, then you will need to buy new tires very soon.
Now I also run 38psi after this bad experience.

I run 38 too.

Not just because I believe that it is better, but it also gives you some grace should you not check them for a while.

Like in the wife's car where I didn't get the chance to do them for a while (and we all know she wouldn't). Checked them the other day after months. all were sitting 29-30 which is fine, now if you filled them to what the manufacturer recommended, they would be dangerous.

I live on the freeway, so no issue there!

It's an issue with W.A. roads  :)

Pip
I used to run 38/34 front/back in deference to relative weight front to back but now just generally pump to 40psi all round out of laziness.

I need to slow a lot for speed humps but see an economy benefit on the highway, it's a reasonable compromise.
