Fourth set in 43,000 miles?  :faint:
I wouldn't be very happy with that having got 68,000 kms out of my first set of Kumhos.

Expected a wheel alignment problem therefore got it fully checked out when last new tyres were fitted a couple of weeks ago,I was with the tyre fitter and alignment checked out perfect so I have no idea what is wrong, admittedly I like to push the car on on twisty country roads so it's maybe just my driving ,but I also have a landrovers defender which has done over 40 thousand miles on its last set of fronts which is almost as many miles as my i30 has used up 4 sets on

Something is definitely in need of adjustment Sheepman.. It says a lot for other features of the car that you haven't traded it on something else.. Going through a set of tyres every 10,000 miles sure adds to your running costs  :sweating:

I would be writing to Hyundai UK with a copy of your Tyre receipts and asking for an explanation...I don't think it relates entirely to your spirited driving as Surferdude (an ex-rally driver) and several other Aussie members give their i30's a good workout and get twice that mileage ... :Pout:

Hi sheepman, i figured with the wear issues you've had, you would have had a few alignments. My suggestion was that, whatever the settings are, an experienced front end specialist should be able to look at the tyre wear and the current settings and make an adjustment, possibly just outside  or at least right on the limit of the acceptable range. I would be looking at adding just a bit more positive camber and/or toe in.

I got the original front two tyres replaced this morning with Goodyear GT-3's. There was actually still about 4mm left on the old ones but after a puncture and a repair that didn't work I thought It was about time to change. It's got 39k miles on the clock so I suppose that's not too bad. The Hancooks on the back can stay until next month and I'll get them changed too.
The deal was a special on www.blackcircles.com at £59 each fitted/balanced/valve/disposal at a nearby garage which seems pretty good. Time will tell  :P

I tried rotating my "Get you home" spare, but it didn't work very well ... apart from the impact on top speed I only ever got as far as the first roundabout and then mysteriously found myself going back the way I'd come

I got exactly 20,000mls from my front Hankooks K415's then I changed to Pirelli P7's done 11,000mls and about half worn BUT the new i30 that came on Wednesday has the Hankook 415's on and as soon as i drove it I noticed how quiet it was and ride felt firm, I think I will go back to the Hankooks when the Pirelli's wear out.

I just learnt something. :-[
The GT3 has been around for years and Is pretty much sold as a budget tyre in Australia.
And I was surprised to realise they're still available overseas.
However, checked a few on line reports and they were very positive in the UK. So I look forward to hearing how yours progress.
Could you let us know what size you bought and have a look and see where they were made, please?

On my i30 Trophy I just bought, Hankook Optimo tyres are fitted, are they standard fitment to Hyundais internationally or just in OZ?  I don't know a lot about tyres, but the Hankooks are I suppose just the average run about tyre?

Like others, to prolong tyre life I get my tyres rotated every 10,000 km that is about once a year as I don't do heaps of clicks these days.  When I sold my 2007 Tucson in June it had 32,000km on it (Hankooks) and they were not even 50% worn, thanks to rotation and not many corners down here. :goodjob2:

Hankooks or Kumhos, Lester, depending on what they lay their hands on in the factory on any given day.
Like Hyundai and Kia, Hankook and Kumho are sister companies.
I only got 30,000 klms out of my original Hankooks after getting more than double that on each of my previous two sets on an Impreza.
I now have Goodyear Duraplus fitted (report elsewhere on here), and have over 20,000 up so far with maybe 25% wear.

Yes I thought P7's would have been better but they don't feel any better even when chucking the car round corners (i'm used to riding the R1 most of the time)

Should have checked blackcircles first as they are from my local town your deal seems very good, bad snow forecast for this comming winter and am considering a set off winter tyres just to use until. Next may has anyone any experience and reccomondations as have never used them before but during winter of 2010 car was almost unusable due to the roads and low profile tyres therefore will have to seriously insider them if the long term  forecast is corect

They are 185/65/15 and stamped 'Made in Poland'. I do quite a high mileage so it i should know fairly quickly if they were a good choice or not.

'Get you home spare'? Don't the British supplied i30's have a full size spare?

I have a full size gun metal alloy spare wheel/tyre (Hankook Optimo K415)  in my new i30 trophy.  I was under the impression all Hyundais have a real wheel and tyre as spare, my previous Elantra and Tucson also did.

It's a country by country decision as to what specs they include. Thankfully someone here in Oz made the right decision on the spare.

Hi to everyone here

'Get you home spare'? Don't the British supplied i30's have a full size spare?

I think Hyundai have changed their policy on this. When looking round at used cars a couple of months ago, my decision came down to an 2008 or a 2010 i30. The newer one had the full size spare and the old one (the one I went for) had the "get you home" spare. Unfortunately when showing me round the cars the dealer showed me the newer one, so I didn't realise I only had the smaller spare, until I got it home. Not too bothered though, seeing as it's lighter, and I love the car already   :happydance:

I have a full size Hankook in my '09. I remember reading somewhere that diesel cars should have a full size spare due to the torque they produce. That also goes for disk brakes all round however that theory has recently been shattered by a colleague of mine who has an 09' Skoda Fabia 1.9 TDi with drum brakes at the back  :disapp:

I drive like a mini hoon at times but normally i am moderate to tough on my tyres in this car (as my previous car was AWD) and mine are wearing out at 31,000. They still have  while to go but yeah... others suggest more around 40?

Nah I don't think it is correct.  On the plus side the new Goodyear tyres are going well. I'm about 400 miles in and so far so good. They have transformed the grip - no more feeling like I'm going to skid off the road in the wet. The MPG seems to have improved by maybe 1-2 mpg. The road noise is about the same. The only down side is that the steering is slightly heavier. I'm happy with my choice though.

While on the subject of tyres, what do you think of GT Radials?

I see their "Champiro 228" came out on top in a "Choice" comparison recently....

Just thought I'd bump this as I had been hoping to get Trev's thoughts (or anyone else's) on these tyres...   :)

I just replaced our tyres on Bruce,38,447 K's,would have gotten more but Hyundai I30 most inherent problem, inner edge tyre scrubbing, put paid to that even with rotating tyres every 5000k's,yet Hyundai still denies it has a problem with setting up their own front ends alignment,I have seventeen's on Cyril and I should eek out 45,000 K's out of them, but still a hugh issue with inner tyre scrubbing, but I have found a place than can and will rectify Hyundai's screw up.

I replaced the original Kumhos at around 45000kms and had ran them on nitrogen since new. I replaced them with Bob Jane Xenon Z7 - took this option as they offer a free replacement if there is damage to the tyre in the first half life of the tyre and half price for the rest - these were replace at around 105000km and were ok but were a bit slippery in the wet. I  replaced them with Yokohama C drive and so far so good but only 5000km in. All tyres have been inflated with Nitrogen and rotated, balanced and aligned about every 10000kms... they joy of driving on NSW potholed roads...  :winker:
