Supermarket chain Asda has apologised to a customer who was charged £450 for a loaf of bread while using a debit card at a self-service check-out.

Warehouse worker John Brown only noticed the store's error when he checked his bank statement three days after buying two loaves of bread, a pot of jam and a box of eggs.

^^^^^^

Yep.

And I for one will never make a card transaction without getting a receipt, which I check.

I usually remember to check that the amount is reasonable but not always. Faffing about with packing and clubcard things are distracting. Have noticed errors in the bills afterwards sometimes and gone to the help desk to sort out.

Though one time I had a tyre replaced at a back street tyre firm nearby which had a temporary bod while the main chap was away. If I recall correctly the tyre should have cost £58 but on checking my credit card statement some time later I noticed I'd been billed £85. Put that down to experience.
