One thing I couldn't hack are those "gay" tyres.....Who thought flowers on the side walls were a good idea?

Thanks Russ.. Yeah I have to agree (makes them look cheap to me)  :undecided:

From memory they also have them on the Elantra too....yes?  :undecided:

I first saw them at the Melbourne Motor Show and had been hoping they wouldn't fit the same tyres for the OZ market.  :(

Thanks for your review Dazz, that was very interesting.
If that is the diesel you mentioned with 1400 km range?? then I don't want to know either  :(
And as far as the tyres are concerned, Rustynutz, you could use a whitewall marker to highlight those  :D (I agree with you).
And speaking of handbrakes (& slightly off topic, sorry), I reefed on the handbrake on one of my classic cars today and the lever broke off in my hand, locking the brake on, and I can't undo it. Not happy.  :'(

Sorry, just based on appearances, I think Hy is going down the gurglar!

The "fluid whatever' is crap to me!

I might be old but good form is still good form. Who thinks the E Type Jag (as an example) was ugly?

The original i30 sadly could be the best Hy ever and unless they lift their game and stop copying Mazda, the brand will spend a few years just marching time while they work it out.

And really... they are bagged all the time for poor handing... there is no excuse for this in this day and age!

I'm worried they will take (poor) form over function.

No one I would think.

The E-Type Jaguar is a work of art which is still as beautiful today as it was in 1961 IMHO.

Great review Dazz, thanks! So you also think the steering is very responsive (at least much better then in i30)? Great.

I guess it's true what I've read few times - that the 2.0 petrol goes well, but not as it should for 177hp (or something like that). I think you will really like the 1.7 CRDi 100kW, so..probably did a good thing telling them not to inform you, when it arrives  But I know you'll go in a matter of few days, after you hear, it's there  :whistler:

I think the E-Type is beautiful and the XK as well (which my 89Y/O dad drives) but in the flesh the i40 looks pretty good to me as does the new Elantra  :undecided:

Dave (DB08) Yes the diesel ADR is 4.7LPH with a 70 Litre Tank  (so lakes and a few others would probably get 1600 KMs  :faint:

And they thought of everything too, heated back windows to keep the owners hands warm when they were pushing it and all. It's just a shame that the dodgy electrics ment they didn't work either  :happydance:

Yep. I agree. A work of art. Best viewed hanging on a wall somewhere. :happydance:

I understand that they may not be quite the match of some of the better handling European cars, but "bad" handling?

From the reviews I've read, this doesn't appear to be the case so I'm curious how you've come to that conclusion.... :undecided:

  Yes, British electrics are another thing altogether. Not quite as beautiful as the body........

Has anyone driven and compared the 2lt engine to the i30? I was thinking that with the extra weight of the i40 it might be a bit sluggish.

cheers

Ralph

I think Dazz has driven 2.0 177hp petrol i40. And he can tell you about the difference the best - as he also owns a 2.0 petrol i30CW (okay, he doesn't but Trish does..  But he has driven it already).

As far as I can remember, he said the 2.0 petrol isn't that "sporty". I think he even wrote a review somewhere on this forum.

Hi Ralph .. see post # 59  (for my review) It was an auto and I was very impressed although felt it was slightly down on performance to my Camry Hybrid. Hard to compare with our i30 Petrol as that is a manual.

The GDi engines are quite powerful though so I would guestimate the extra performance of the newer 2.0 ltr motor would offset the extra weight. It was definitely no slug even in 6 speed Auto form..
