Title: Installed the fascia's glove box
Post by: meehalych on February 28, 2012, 15:18:28
I finally did it, it took me almost four hours and cut finger  :D (the way between the driver's door and the trunk's one is littered with the drops of my blood )

Here is what I received in the local post office at 14 o'clock
(http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m590/meehalych/0069.jpg)
Having grabbed the necessary tools and printed materials I went downstairs to my car (14:30, approximately)

I spent some time trying to remove the fascia, which turned out to be a hard nut, I started with lower side and managed to undo the right and center claps easily, whereas the left one stayed on its place a little bit longer.
Anyway I did remove it

Now the most boring and tiring part of work awaited me - to cut all unnecessary parts. That was when I cut my finger by Leatherman multi-tool (Surge)

Having completed with cutting I placed the fascia back
(http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m590/meehalych/0075.jpg)

later on it was followed by glove box

18:30 - all works completed

Super mod :)
although if i have to be critical, it might benefit with a small file at the left hand corner of the surround to make it fit smooth??

But a great mod all the same, will make it easier when you change the radio

Damn, does the media know about it? We may profit from this event as we seem to be only one, who know anything.

it was -4°C, not cold as compared with recent -27°C, though I spent 4 hour in the car with door almost open and open when I was sawing plastics.

You ever been to Northern Ireland? You would probably think it exotic to Russia :/

-4 would be frightful to work in.

I do wish my car had the dashboard cubby - it can be used for hiding a pop-up sat-nav. The design of the 2012 i30 dashboard will not allow such a retrofit.

What does stop you from installing it then?
It's relatevely easy, I would say

It's too late - my car is due to be replaced shortly with the 2012 model.

The day before yesterday I forgot to saw off three cover's attaching points on fascia (I know, I know: what a shame on me )
So yesterday I had a chance to rectify my mistake

no, a pin, that blocks gear's lever shift from 'P'

I assume those other two holes now visible are part of the security feature>?

well, though those holes are located on driver's side in my case, the main concept is the same: one hole is for key to release a pin, whereas the second one is meant to hold pin, thus preventing gear's lever from being shifted (it's fixed in 'P' mode as long as the pin is inside)

not as effective as a locking mechanism installed on the steering wheel's shaft (I do have one): well hidden and complicated access.
