Good evening all,

I recently purchased a 2008 i30 2l diesel and I'm very happy with it so far.

It took me a few weeks to notice that the rear passenger side wheel has its centre cap/badge missing. "No problem!" I thought to myself, "I'll get some more off of eBay.". So off I went and checked out the hole circumference and ordered 4 Hyundai badged plastic caps for £9.99.

Then I went out to push it in from the outside (as it looks like they should just pop right in) only to find I couldn't get the bugger in.

Is there another way I'm supposed to do this? I'm really stuck and not having it there really bugs me. Any help would be very greatly appreciated!

What do the caps look like, is it possible they fit from the inside of the wheel, once removed

Welcome AgitatedBrit ..

From Memory they are only 45mm. I got some custom ones made by a mate with a laser cutting machine (as they seemed to have every size but what I needed on the net) :undecided:

My wife's car has aftermarket alloys though.

Try a couple of local alloy wheel sellers. they might have some generic ones you can replace all 4 with.

The originals on my 2008 FD just push in from the outside, no trickery from behind .

You will find Hyundai fit centre caps in 56mm 60mm and 65mm sizes.

I think you need to measure the diameter of one of your caps and order the appropriate size.

Are there little lugs which need to be compressed as they slide into the hole?

Try a bit of wd40 to lub the sides.

WD40 might not be a good idea (they are usually peel and stick)

Maybe a light sand of the edge all the way around (maybe it is just a millimetre or so)

Could it be that the alloys on your car is not genuine Hyundai alloys...?

You posted some pic's the other day. I don't have Hy alloys on mine so can't tell, maybe someone else is able to conclude...?

I honestly have no idea if they're OEM or not, sorry! How can I tell?

Edit: this is my car, with the middle bit missing on the forecourt of the dealership. I didn't notice it was missing at the time.  :-[

Those are genuine hyundai FondMetal alloys (I have them).

Prise a cap from one of the good ones and compare it with your ebay purchase.

Well that explains the problem - the cap is too large by about 4mm!  :whistler:

Saw 2008 i30 on the listing and assumed it would fit.  :-[

So, what's your next move?

Options in increasing severity:

1: Find new caps somewhere
2: Take them all off instead
3: Was thinking about different alloys anyway
4: New car
5: Become a hippy, buy a bicycle.

Actually, that's probably what happened to yours....

The caps are not easy to remove with the wheel in situ, when I did my wheel work I popped them out from behind http://s1143.photobucket.com/user/kkeithp/media/null-66.jpg.html?sort=3&o=2

Yea, the chromed plastic started to lose its finish on the leading edges. They are inserts held in by 2 screws at the back of each. I removed them, cleaned them up and keyed them ready for a primer and then mat black paint. I treated the alloy behind the plastic inserts to a good rub down and then a good greasing with a heavy heat proof grease to stop more water ingress.

P.S. If you zoom in close you can see my L.E.D. DRL's under the front bumper. They do the job just fine and operate within the rules set by the European Union.

Hi Moxey, I got everything off e-bay for around £12, that was for everything except the wire connecting it all up. The l.e.d.'s are extra bright stick on strip versions and a dedicated switching relay that comes with a diagram for fitting. Took a while to get into the engine bay from the housing area occupied by the fog lamps. The rest of the wiring is contained within plastic spiral wrapping just under the bonnet slam panel to the battery side where I attached my relay. I set aside a morning in the warm-ish weather and soldered all joints, insulating with chemical shrink wrap.

We'd had a good weeks thaw then Mox lol!

It's a straightforward fit with any electrical knowledge.

With the lights on Auto the DRL's light on Start-up & go off when the lights come on.

You need to stick with the EU light positioning regs of course. I've had mine fitted and working for over a year now and had no complaint from anyone including mobile Law enforcement... No-one has pulled out in front of me either where they used to with monotonous regularity before I fitted my DRL's.
