Post by: Blackeye_Elmo on September 10, 2012, 12:44:34
Ive just ordered an Waeco MS 50 Magic Speed Cruise Control kit for my 2011 UK 1.4 I30....

It cost £89 with free delivery using a few promo codes www.conrad-uk.com (http://www.conrad-uk.com/ce/en/product/851329/Waeco-MS-50-Magic-Speed-Cruise-Control/0313020) so I thought it would be worth a shot.....

It'll be here in a few days so I'll take a few pics and post how it goes... WISH ME LUCK

Well the kit arrived today and..........

Turns out "Plug and Play" translates to 3-5 hours of a mechanics time after you've really fu*ked with your car first...........  :winker:

I'm going to put this one off for a few days first until I have really planned it out and worked out how im going to do it. Im not mechanical, but I am a tech... I thought that was close enough lol

TBC,,,

The spec in the link above states accelerator cable required.  Doesn't the i30 have an  electronic throttle pedal?

The MS-50 can be installed in nearly all vehicles with 12 volt electrics and an accelerator cable

Sorry I haven’t been back and replied in a while. I got fed up with the rubbish mpg and last of fun out of the car. I was getting 36mpg normally and 32mpg if my boot is full, not what I was sold by Hyundai. Their line is "arh, but the MPG is only achievable in factory conditions" what a load of bollocks! In fact if you look around there has been a successful class action against Kia and Hyundai in the states for providing unachievable mpg figures, the suit is currently worth over $700M

Anyway, I ordered a more fun car were the mpg is shitty, I know is shitty but only 10mpg less... But a hell of a lot more fun! I’ll be here soon, march time and Ive give the i30 to my girlfriend.

  Ford too.

Hope they haven't lied about the Mustang  :whistler:

Mind you one of those would look nice parked in the driveway

I would be surprised if a Mustang only used 10 mpg more than a I30.

I do hope Ford USA's quality is better than Ford Australia

I dare say the old fuel economy fiddle will be shown to be done by all manufacturers in the US. Once one does it, you can bet the others will follow.

Still, I wouldn't mind one of those in my driveway.

"That top electric-only speed means that for the portion of the EPA's highway fuel-efficiency test, which maxes out at 60 mph, the car can travel in electric-only mode without the gasoline engine kicking on; essentially the C-Max Hybrid is optimized for the EPA test".

Seems a bit harsh, would seem to me that it is the test that needs to be changed. All the vehicle makers are doing is displaying the result of said test.

Blimey that's poor MPG! I also have the 1.4 and get around 49mpg. How I've got there:

1. Inflate the tyres towards Max pressure.
2. Cruise at 60-65mpg on motorways
3. Pulse and glide techniques. That means spending about 1/3 of my 20 mile commute coasting in neutral
4. Plan ahead! Coast up to traffic lights, roundabouts, tight bends - anything where lots of drivers keep the power on then brake harder.

So it can be done, but you have to plan ahead and work at it.

Yes have to agree very poor milage,I am constantly getting 49-56mpg,a freind has a twelve month old Mustang, yes fun car but he even on a trip is getting 20-21 mpg,if he hoof's it get more like 12mpg,but he hasn't learnt he is awaiting his GT40 replica from Sydney,no and he's never had a I30,he's Ford through and through
