Even the BBC news here in Scotland is very quiet on the cricket.  Apparently it is more important who the English play in the World Cup next year.

I found it very interesting when Michael Clarke was fined for his comments to James Anderson during the first test.  The BBC were very vocal about how it shouldn't be in cricket, threatening physical violence to an opposition player.  What wasn't mentioned here at all, was what Anderson allegedly said to George Bailey to spark the outburst.  Just how poor Jimmy was the victim.  Don't get me wrong, I don't think what Clarke said was appropriate, but there are always two sides to the story, the BBC just gave the English.

I think Mitchell Johnson is doing the right thing, intimidating bowling, backed up with menace, and appropriate sledging.  Bring on that sweet chin music, Mitchell.   :goodjob2:

I actually don't believe Clark was threatening at all, I reckon it was more a friendly warning due to the intimidating bowling....

Personally I reckon he should've been given a bonus for being such a caring, considerate player....   :D

Agreed, Rusty.  He was giving him fair warning.  "Prepare for a effing broken arm!!"  I believe he even pointed at the arm that might be broken, in a manner to indicate that it was that certain arm, not the other, that was the target.

I don't quite know why I'm watching but maybe hoping they'll learn something for the the next test at Perth.  Though if I recall correctly England have only ever won one test match there so it would be a surprise victory if it came about. Picking the team for the next one is important but they have limited options -

England were favourites to win with the bookies before they flew out - but the odds on winning the series must be 900/1 by now.  :scared:

That's a strange way for Joe to go out. Next we'll be seeing the return of streakers.

Damn, we lost the toss. At least we have nabbed Rogers early on.

I'm not sure about the selection of our bowlers,  but we'll see.  I'm not too hopeful but will watch the first session - even though play starts at 2:30 am GMT <yawn>.

Four wickets before lunch would be nice.  :happydance:

6/326 at stumps.

Good start by the English, better finish by the Australian middle order (again).  Looks like an even day.

Game on.

326 is a pretty good day one score. Especially with 4 wickets in hand.
Be interesting to see how the Poms handle their first innings at the crease.

The "broken arm" comment reminds me of a passage in the new book "TC" by Nick Carroll about himself and his brother Tom (world surfing champion).
In the book Nick and Tom talk about Tom's battle with drugs.
He tells the story of a period when Nick was editor of a major US surfing publication and was worried about Tom as a result of some of the phone conversations he had had with him.
Tom was due in LA to do some work with his sponsor and the sponsor's agent detailed to "look after" Tom was a notorious "good time guy".
Nick got the guy's phone number and rang him (let's call him "Bill"). The phone rings and is answered. Quickly Nick says, "Bill, it's Nick Carroll here. You know, Tom's brother. I just wanted to know if you are right or left handed"
Brief reply, "Right".

"OK', says Nick. "Here's the deal. If I find out you've supplied Tom with any drugs while he's here, I'm coming round and break your right arm. Then I'll tell your employer why it's broken.
Got it?'

"Yeah".

Apparently Tom was on his best behaviour and quite lucid for the whole tour. ( I chnaged this to read "tour" rather than "trip". )

It was only 10 years later that Nick discovered the bloke on the other end of the phone that day, was Tom.

Sorry for the off-topic, but the book is top of mind even 3 weeks after I read it.
A moving story about one of surfing's first families, emotional and no punches pulled.

Aussies out for 385 on this very good pitch. Should have been less if Captain Cook had put an extra slip in - dunno why he didn't.

I'd be pleased to think that England would do great things in this innings - but I have my doubts.

A familiar story yet again for the Poms....all out for 251, trailing the Aussies by 134.....

2nd innings for the Aussies sees them 0/111....245 runs ahead...  :goodjob:
