My tab 2 some 3 years old seems to loose battery very quickly.

It all started at the weekend.
I charged it up for some hours then while using it the battery % just kept dropping more than usual.

Not doing anything different in use etc.

Check apps running and stopped/deleted/uninstalled those i felt i don't need/use but this has not helped.

I think the battery is on its way out.

Any suggestions before i bin the unit!

No option to replace the battery

When you hit 'bin point' consider:

1. using it in tandem with a powerbank to provide you with the battery life you are missing,

2. dismantling it and replacing the internal battery, user serviceable or not,

3. attaching it permanently to a larger customised system such as home security or other (perhaps bluetooth or wifi) automation, or

4. donating it to a local electronics hobbyists' group.

Or as my kids call it 'playcharge' ie just keep running it whilst plugged in.

Ok so I've been doing some googling and it seems that the latest update to Google Play Services is the culprit.

From online moans it appears that for android systems it is memory/battery hungry.

will need to see how I can reduce it usage.........

If that's the case go into settings, applications,  google play services and you may be able to select uninstall updates...

Disabled it for now.

Don't you have a Galaxy Tab 3 like mine?
Batteries can be replaced.
Mine hhas got progressively less effective but it's still OK.
However, I'll be checking the google play app. Good idea.

Since i disable play the battery useage has slowed down  so looks as if that may be it.

OK. Only difference is mines a 3.
I tried disabling Play but then I couldn't use YouTube.

Update

Overnight it has kept its charge so does point to play being the issue.

Re disable

I found the same and got message but after reading posts last night i did this.

enabled play, powered down and did a reboot, presing on/off and volume up/down button at same time for 20 seconds.

When commands appeared selected reboot and seems to have reduced battery use.

Time will tell if this has been sorted!

Tablets had a new lease of life.

After disabling and enabling play and doing a reboot my tablet has been holding its charge.

So holding off doing a battery change for the present to see if tablet holds its charge as the last 24 hours.
