Title: The IBM Simon: Celebrating 23 years since the first smartphone made its debut
Post by: eye30 on November 23, 2015, 15:53:39
You can probably remember the first smartphone you ever used, but what about the first smartphone that ever existed? Don’t worry if you can’t — it was first unveiled 23 years ago on November 23rd at a time when mobile phones were still a bit of a novelty.

First shown at the COMDEX trade show (since replaced by CES) in Las Vegas in 1992 and launched two years later, the IBM Simon was billed as a ‘personal communicator’ — the term ‘smartphone’ didn’t come along until 1995.

Yup!

Thanks for the link to the article.

BTW the first cell-phone call was about 20 years before that - April 3rd 1973...

Bloomberg did a nice little piece on it...  :link: The Story Behind the First Cell Phone Call Ever Made - Bloomberg Business (http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2015-04-24/the-story-behind-the-first-cell-phone-call-ever-made)
