Took my car out to lakeside finally, was great fun!  Spent most of my day chasing a 2nd gen mx5 around the track, best lap of the day was a 1:13.6 on street tyres and some mild modifications. Not bad for an auto oiler :)

Hi trsc27..

Gr8 little vid..  :goodjob: (and nice smooth driving - mostly  :winker:)

Just a few questions...
1) How much did it cost you to do that (cost my m8 A$450 to do something similar at Symmonds Plains)
2) What type of camera did you use and where did you mount it? (Perfect positioning)
3) How did your tires handle the day (much scrubbing) are they 15" or 16" (SX or SLX?)

Thanks for sharing.. really enjoyed  :D

Thanks for the video Rob..... bet you had a great day.

I have attached a plan of the track. (According to
Wiki it's about 1.5 miles or 2.5 km long.)

PS. Are you interested in joining another i30 club drive on the Sunshine Coast?
I am thinking of organising one as I found a great section of scenic, hilly
and twisting road in the Sunshine Coast hinterland.
     Cheers, Russ

Ok to drive at Lakeside the cost is anywhere between $135 for midweek sprints or $200 for weekend, plus the licence which costs about $55 for one that lasts a year.  QR is similar in costing I believe as well all the info is here in one way or another if anyone else is interested http://www.qldraceways.com.au/index_flash.html

Camera is a JVC MS120 which I bought cheap from my work with no accessories and it was mounted on a tripod I had firmly wedged in the rear seats when folded flat, it fit perfectly in the area where the middle rear passenger would sit and as you can see it didnt move, even when cornering at 140km/h!

As for the tyres if you have a look at the photos of my car from the last qld drive we had Ive got 16x7 rota slipstreams as my wheels and a set of federal 595evo tyres which are still very much street tyres.  The guys at Bob Jane at Toombul were very surpised how well they stood up to the punishment, they had already done 15000km, then the 20 laps at the track and they still have plenty of tread left on them for at least another 4-5000km on them, my slx rims sit under my house as spares if i ever need them.

And if you want to organise another drive up the sunshine coast area im all for it, let me know when you had it in mind :)

Thanks for the info..I think my mate got some "one on one" tuition for his extra $$

Of course a Tripod  (Pity I sold ours ) The little JVC is not a bad little camera..

I might just velcro our VC to the dashmat but not as good as what you did

Good stuff. Your lines through Karussel are good. I see Hungry nearly ate you for lunch one time. That dirt just outside the turn in line is off-putting isn't it.

It was the only slip up all day and all it was was just a bit of a jarry ride over a ripple strip, quickly learned not to do it that way again, my main bugbear was the eastern loop and coming onto the main straight, the two corners everyone warned me about i had no trouble with thankfully (karrusel and under the dunlop bridge)

Yeah. Karussel is actually two corners (although I notice they've done something a bit different with the bitumen there now). The trick is to get your approach right and you can turn in and hold one radius right through to the exit uphill. Never had a problem under the bridge but I did see a Torana sports edan get totally sideways (at right angles to the direction of travel) there one day, and pull it back in time for Hungry.

did the change of brake fluid help stop brake fade?  :)

Never once did I have sponge for a pedal, it was good for each 5 lap session for the two times you have to stomp on the pedal from 140+ km/h

Oh and cheers Razy for all you advice from what you've learned from your car :)

I drive daily on hilly and country roads here in South Australia, the gear box is absolutelly lame and does no justice to the engine. I'm always finding myself shifting to a lower gear manually (even though is auto), otherwise I loose too much speed.
It handles ok, i can manage to take a bend rated at 25 at actually 60 without loosing control or leaving the correct side at all.

On Youtube itself it say 12.2l/100km avg for the day. Not bad, only double the combined figure for a auto CRDi.

I think 20l/100km would be something more what you petrol heads would HOPE to keep down too!   :P

Daniel
