Title: Annoying knocking
Post by: horsegate on January 30, 2015, 09:12:18
I have a new i30 SR and have an annoying soft/muffled knock at the rear of the car. I think it is the rear parcel rack or the boot floor but can't detect it when the car is stationary. Does anyone have any ideas?  Thanks, Bob.

Is the spare tyre secured?

Check the rear seats at the top where the backrest meets the holding locators. Sometimes they rattle there.

Parcel shelf or boot can both cause it. Easy to remove the parcel shelf to eliminate that.
Then wedge a piece of rag in the boot latch. That'll stop it moving if it is the cause.

But, it could be something as simple as a rear seat belt buckle touching the side panel.

I think Phil on the money here. I use a bit of insulation tape to increase the diameter of the holding pin, knock gone

Mine don't knock. But the tape is what I used on the boot pin.

I had noise in my previous fd and it was the exhaust hitting a bracket which straddles the 2 halfs of the car.

Checking under the car it had been bent slightly and was catching with the movement of the car

Get a friend to either sit in the back or drive the car , while the owner either drives or sits in the back to check out where the noise is coming from....
