I bought a classic I30, pre reg, last Saturday.  I mentioned in a previous post that the seatbelt lock (the thing with the red button) was missing from the rear seat passenger side.

Well, when I moved the cushion, another problem came to my attention.

The middle belt was not screwed in under the seat.  Had my 14 year old daughter been sat there, and had I suddenly braked or crashed, the seatbelt would have offered no protection at all.

Luckily, I spotted it because of the missing "lock" (thing with the red button), and not because of an RTA.

I'm taking it to the dealer tomorrow to get the problem resolved.  But, onsuch a basic safety requirement, I am  little shocked at the lack of checks on these things.

I'm enjoying the car, but this has knocked my confidence a little.  I know it is a case of human error, but this could have had disastrous consequences.

I would recommend that everyone checks their seatbelt fastenings.

If pre reg means pre owned, do you know the car's history. Could have been in an accident & the repairer didn't replace it correctly.  Hope not for your sake though.  :(

No, when I test drove the car it had 20 miles on the clock, and 28 when I bought it.  It is a 62 plate.

Demand a free service, that's why you pay for dealer delivery, I bet if you got your hand on the list, it is something that should have been checked.

Could be that the stealer needed that part for a repair to another vehicle and they just placed it in there (no point screwing it in when your just going to replace it) and forgot to do so?

Good thinking beerman, that would surely be it. I would probably complain fairly loudly about that.

Give them a chance to rectify it then let us know how humble they were.

I think I would ask for another PDI to be performed, on the grounds that it seems to have skipped its original one.

It would fail a British MOT that's for sure.

There's a safety angle here that Ady could pursue..

ADY1927, although you're decades older than me your 14 year old daughter makes you seem younger. Are you going to keep working into your mid nineties to pay for university fees?
