For those in Perth, please come down and say hello.  :)

This is a copy of a generic letter that went out to various media outlets, a few of which are coming along to take footage.

"Please be advised that the Leyland P76 Owners’ Club of W.A. is hosting a display of cars in Forrest Place, Perth on Wednesday, June 26th 2013, to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the official launch of the Leyland P76 which took place on June 26th 1973.

The display, which is expected to attract approximately twenty cars of various specifications and colours, will operate all day from 8.00 am until 5.00pm for public viewing.

Several members of the Leyland P76 Owners’ Club will be present on the day to answer questions and interact with the public.

The club is very active and continually growing, as is the interest in these Australian classic cars and we experience positive responses from the public every time we drive or show them.

Should this event be of interest to your viewers/listeners/readers, please don’t hesitate to contact the undersigned either prior to or on the day for further information.

Yours sincerely,

James Mentiplay
Club President"

We had the 40th anniversary display today in Perth.
I was up at 5.30 this morning to meet at Kings Park at 6.30 and then we travelled in convoy to Forrest Place.
It was a great day, talked to lots of people, got asked some really dumb questions and was also interviewed by WestTV for a programme that will be aired on Saturday night.
As the club's official photographer, I forgot my camera.
So I only got four photos on my phone and got another club member who had a camera to take all the shots so as I haven't received them yet I can't share them with you.  :disapp:
The lady in the first two photos is the TV reporter who interviewed me. In these pics she is interviewing another club member about his car.
The other two are just a couple of not very good pics of the display.
Better ones to follow.
We were there from 7.00 am until 5.00 pm so a long day but a good day.
The dumbest question I was asked was by a lady who said (after looking at the cars), "Are these Cadillacs or Chryslers?"
I said, "They're Leylands."
She said, "Yes, I can read the badge but are they Cadillac Leylands or Chrysler Leylands?"
I said, "They're Leyland Leylands."
She looked at me really strangely, said, "Thank you" and walked away.

That looks like the 1974 WRC rally car that won the Targa Florio stage.
The last I heard (I haven't read the updated blog) a Leyland P76 is leading in the Peking to Paris too

Yeah. I follow the blog occasionally too.
I think the car in the pic is the World Cup Rally winner. Evan Green and John Bryson. Quote below from "Australian Rally History"

Yes it is the 1974 World Cup P76. Yes one of these is leading the Peking to Paris at the moment. Gerry turned 81 in May and his navigator is Matt Bryson the eldest son of the navigator on the World Cup car John Bryson

Anything but average.  ;)
Great to see them still competing forty years on.
It's amazing he's doing that at his age but apparently he's as sharp as a pin.

I met John Bryson in the early 70's. He had a sort of rally specialist shop on the Pacific Highway in one of the northern Sydney suburbs and we called in to see it on our way to Bega for the Bega Valley ARC Rally. Damn nice guy but I hate to think how old HE is.

Don't know if he was a part of that lot. He seemed to be a bit of a loner.

Might be a different lot or distant rellies.
