Rise in fraudsters tampering with car mileage - and you could be an unwitting criminal if you sell on a clocked motor

There was a three per cent rise in the number of cars being clocked last year and nearly half a million motors on UK roads now have false mileage, according to estimates.

Fraudsters tamper with the odometer to add value to a car and dupe unwitting buyers who wouldn’t be able to tell the difference.

It is a practice that has been around for decades – but there has been a surge in recent years.
