Do you own an automatic and your wife substituted accelerator pedal for the brake?

What do you mean by "uncontrollable acceleration"?

Has a fault on the accelerator been found which accounts for the event?

Righto...
Has pilot error been ruled out?
Does the car have a fitted or loose floor mat?
Petrol or diesel?
If the TPS had failed I'd expect a logged Error in the ECU.
More information needed really.

*not a Toyota is it by any chance lol...

Never seen anything in here about it.

As I have a petrol manual, was this a petrol manual?

I'm concerned in what you are reporting.

The vehicle is a petrol auto, as my wife was preparing to park the accelerator dropped away the car travelled about 5 meters into a wall. Witnesses at the scene described the vehicle revving high even after she alighted from the vehicle, she was in shock and did not turn the engine off, a witness manually pulled the accelerator back to idle position and turned the engine off.  The car is awaiting an inspection to be organised by insurance company.

Was the cruise control system used recently. Any possibility it could have accidentally engaged?

I need to be pretty close to 60 kph for it to engage. Tried it recently.

I'll post an update on that in the original thread as I've been doing tests at different speeds and gear selection.

being fly by wire it sounds like the spring under the peddle has broke or came out of its mount and allowed the peddle to drop to the floor, the throttle switch would have read a wide open reading and tried to do what it was told by reving up,

on a side note

i had a issue with aftermarket cruise control in a fly by wire car, where it told the engine to rev up, while the cruise control was turned off, resulted in 3 big rev's lots of wheel spin and a nice healthy stall in the middle of a intersection, turned the car back on to move off the road, engine light came on, computer set to limp mode and a trip to the dealership to be repaired

on wire thottles in older cars sometimes I have seen them get stuck wide open... but I can't see how it is possible unless both the tiny spring in the pedal mechanism and the rather tight springs holding the throttle valve itself closed failed, in this case

Although in the i30 I do believe there is an electric motor which can operate the throttle independently from your pedal inputs.  There is a second cable running from the butterfly valve to a box near the water resevoir.  It makes sense as the car will rev by itself to complete a gear change properly if you hit the gas a little then back off quickly, if you know what I mean.

My peugeot used to rev by itself.  Was not a throttle or idle valve problem, it was a computer problem.  Quite dangerous

the petrol i30 has an excelorator cable on it,the crdi has the fly by wire set up [remote operated throttle] the throttle positioning sensor could have failed and gone haywire.   :Shocked:

Diesel has no throttle opening and all diesels with electronically controlled fuel injection system use throttle-by-wire. There are redundant throttle position sensors on the throttle pedal, which should allow ECU to detect the failure.

We own a 2012- i30 2 ltr auto  the gearbox controller has now been replaced as this car from new would start the cruise by itself rev its head off and run at 9.4 ltrs to the 100 k, prior to getting gearbox fixed at 15,000 k it did all sorts of strange things and cruise would work from being stopped at lights just click on it and off it would go at full revs,  the car has now done 40,000k and there has been more things wrong with the car than it is worth
