Just had my renewal letter and stripping out add ons i.e., loan car, NCB protection and legal cover, the premium has increased by 68%

Was aware premiums have increased considerably from news reports and Martin Lewis money show etc etc. But 68% when inflation is now 4% plus cost of living crisis for a poor pensioner..

From last year the only things to change are my age, age of car and additional 5,000 miles on the car.

Done a fair number of quotes from comparison sites and even those that you have to go direct.

Not found a reasonable quote yet.......

Any other UK members had megga renewal quotes....

My John Lewis premium last year cost £655. The renewal quote for this year was £1547.

After many hours on the web and phone I got cover from Direct Line for £1,005

My wife and I have no claims or offences,
Live in Solihull 2 miles outside the Birmingham boundary, (lotsa car crime in our postcode)
The car is a 2022 Kia Niro HEV GD3 value £19,000
my 80 year old wife is listed as main driver. I am 87 next month.
20 year no claims. Protection added.

Yeah, sadly I'm now also a pensioner so I expect/anticipate a huge increase in April's renewal quote.

Update.

Rang insurance lv and reduced it a bit from renewal quote, not as low as last years premium.

Direct line were through the roof, double renewal so were several other top name insurers.

Even online comparison sites no better as I rang 2 companies direct but wouldn't budge from quote.

Did find 1 at two thirds renewal but looking into it the afterservice comments not encouraging plus certain items covered on current are excluded.

Still looking as 3 weeks to go but high premiums seems to be the order of the day.

On my old car I was paying around £150 a year but when I got the i30 it doubled, fair enough, newer car etc.
Last years renewal was double again at £600,i use compare the market, after adjusting my voluntary excess up and down on the sites it was redirecting me too, I got it down to £320.

How about this for a puzzle.

A 78 year old friend was quoted £925 for her car insurance.

I told her that when I added my wife to my insurance as second driver the premium was reduced. So she put her 81 year old husband on the cover and the insurance jumped up to £1152.
As an experiment she then added her daughter as a third driver and the premium was reduced to £840.

I doesn't make sense.

She has now followed my lead and got cover with Direct Line with 3 named drivers

I might try adding my step 50 year old step-daughter to our policy as an experiment.  It would be handy for her to drive when we all go for a meal.

Interesting reading here.
When I changed my 2013 Corolla for a 2020 Kona on our policy (covering two cars) it naturally went up but not too much. My wife at is a 2012 Corolla.
The renewal earlier this year was still reasonable.
Our policy covers both of us, driving either car as well as any alternative driver over the age of 25.
$A1017.
Which is about £520.
Also specifically includes the cost of replacing my windscreen with all its super dooper sensors or whatever.

So, I'm happy with that.

However, there's some horrible figures being quoted for house insurance over here lately given all the natural disasters we've been copping, so I'm not looking forward to that turning up.
