The European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) says electronic devices such as mobile phones can be left switched on during flights.

EASA says that electronic devices do not pose a safety risk.

The announcement clears the way for airlines to permit the use of mobile phones, once they have conducted their own safety reviews.

It was always a conservative and restrictive approach, ranging from a revenue opportunity (use of airline telephony via credit card) to minor interference inconvenience over airline audio systems. Better standards in EMI/EMC design may have helped. :victory:

Happening here, too to some extent.

But not to make calls...... yet.

That flight mode rule is a bit of a joke isn't it (how are they going to police that)

My guess is more than 50% will just leave it in normal call mode...

And yet it won't make a scrap of difference to safety. :winker:

 :whsaid:

In our aircraft we don't allow the passengers to carry mobile phones or ebooks.  They are permitted to carry soft cover books and magazines only.  I believe that this is more to do with being a missile hazard in an accident.  Also, you wouldn't be able to hear a phone in the helicopter, so our company will not be making a safety case to allow the use of them in flight.

Before the new regulations came in effect, I had a Flight Attendant tell me that I must turn off my Noise Cancelling Headphones!!   :wtf:

I fly a lot. This rule is very dangerous. Mostly because the first person next to me answering their phone on finals is going to get a slap.

People have been not turning off their phones for months already.
