No problems here mate. The bolster is creasing up but that's down to me sliding sideways getting out. No stitching problems though.

Email me your pic if you want and I'll host & post for you, or you can edit your post, clicking the "additional options" link, then use the "browse..." button to find the pic on your pooter to upload it

I have to admit those seats were one of the reasons I chose the SLX instead of the SR. The leather didnt look that good to me.

If its coming apart I woudl get it checked with Hyundai. Hopefully they will let you take it to a good upholster to get them fixed. Stiching isnt really a major problem if you get it repaired well.

I may be mistaken but in the UK different leathers have been used. Some earlier models have smooth leather all over the seats (as on the stearing wheel) and later models have 'perferated' leather on the back and seat base and the leather is thicker, if that makes sence. I only noticed this when I test drove an 07 model before buying an 08 model.

I think that needs some attention. I can't see the service guys being able to clear it up so I'd give Hy a heads-up about it.

What's the saying? A stitch in time saves nine...

For the few who need it that generous warranty comes in handy..

I didn't mean contact Hyundai UK.. my bad wording..

I would contact my dealership by phone and explain that one of the seats might need an upholsterers attention, and is this something that they are qualified to do at the depot. My guess is they would want to see it for themselves, but I cannot see them repairing the stitching at the service depot

As indeed would I be.

Are these the same guys that fixed your door control illumination & "chrome inserts" but laughed at you when you asked for a free spare keyfob?

Are there any other Hyundai dealerships close by who could give a second opinion?

I'd be asking the dealer to confirm that in writting.  If they ask why - just say you need it for your records -  DON'T say you are contacting HY direct.

Then I would contact HY, sending them a copy of the dealers report and a picture.

Explain you expect this to be dealt with under the terms of the warranty as it can not be classed as fair wear and tear etc etc.

You are UK based, aren't you?

I've the email address of the top man at HY UK as several of us have emailed him direct and got instant satisfaction i.e. 2nd flipper key.

i took it to a different dealer this time, but i know if i go to the original one, I'm going to get grief from the service manager(the very same ones who changed the inserts and laughed off a second key fob)
i sent an email to Hyundai UK and the response is to take it to another dealer for a 2nd opinion, nothing about it being covered by the warranty or any further advice on how to procede.
I'm left wondering now if i made a mistake choosing a Hyundai, i love the car, but if you dint get the back up from the service department, whats the point in having a 5 year warranty that we all brag about to everyone.
if i dont get the responce that the issue deserves, i will have to go down the route of the "sales of goods act" which has the clause" not fit for purpose" included.
if this is the only way to get a result, how disappointing to know that they pick and choose what is covered and whats not, are these the orders from the top or are dealers taking it on themselves to decline genuine faults that any other top manufacturer would put right without any issue.
to add insult to injury, the dealer told me that it would cost over £400 to get a specialist to sort it and that the seatbealt withdrawing or wearing jeans could be the cause of the problem. I'm not sure if i had a four letter word across my head when he said this, but i was at a loss for words and just retreated..

thanks mate, thats fantastic. i just have to get past the muppets and have conversations with people who can make things happen that should be happening at the service level.

No you didn't make a mistake in buying a Hy.  It's the people you have spoken too which is causing you grief.

Ahhh then they have admitting the problem, there is an issue -- seat belt!!!!!!!!

£400 is their problem. Anyway they get it back from HY UK as it's would be a valid claim.
Why jeans?  Do they have those metal studs in the pockets?
Seem too high up and on the side for them to cause the problem.

You can always sit in your boxers, I trust you wear something, otherwise you'll be complaining of a**e burn which I don't think is covered under the warranty

If you are having an issue with the chap at the desk I'd either ask him to get the Dealer Principal i.e the franchise owner/gaffer or go into the sales section and ask to speak to the gaffer direct.

I know it might seem a pain but you need to keep on at them.

Can you take any closer pictures of this stitching? The more I look at the pic you posted the more it looks like the bolster might be overfilled with padding. If that were the case then you exiting the car would put enormous pressure on the seam.

I would also mention this web site and how we share good and bad experiences and the dealer concerned..

We may only have 550 members so far but we are growing fast and have hundreds of visitors as well  8)
