Title: ShineRed i30 CW from Norway
Post by: Glacius on January 09, 2012, 13:30:20
Hello I am a shinRed i30 from Norway .

I finally got my new car not more then 1 month ago , so its still a WIP .

I just wanted to share my car with you all I know its nothing compare to the people here but you might know that in Norway cars are 3 x as expensive then in any other country.

I got this car for about 24 ,000 dollars and its CHEAP very cheap compare to the prices It is originally about 30,000 dollars, and it has about 48,000 km on the clock and its a 2008 model so not much milage at all.

I got a 1,6 CdRi CW wagon for me and my family and i have great plans for it for the summer.

Right now its stock but I love it , its a great car with low milage and extremely low diesel consummation.

Its a great handling car for what its worth it has loads of features like EPS , ABS, ASP etc ,loads of goodies.

Its a great looking car I think with loads of potential and I made a small render of what i might look like when summer hits.

I work for a commercial design company where we create car vinyls , signs and stickers and much more.

This is a stance in the making soon! =D

This is just a render for now made in Corel Draw,
But I will add real pictures of it later.
This is how I want it to be for the summer

So hopefully it will be but the wheels are SO expensive so I need to save up-

Hope i did not bore anyone ,

here are some real pictures of the car

Regards Glac

Will post more pictures of it as it is now soon.
Right now its at the bodyshop for full respray as the tools that had the car at the shop pained some panels wrong colours, door , front fenders and bumpers .lol

regards Glac

Hello Glacius.
Welcome to the club.
I see you're lucky to have i30CW merchandised in your country along with those railings on top, as neither of that is available in Russian market.

I own i30 hatchback, so there is a little chance I would be able to fit the railings, anyway if you are so kind to send them to me, I would accept such a honorable gift and sell them  :winker:

thank you all for warm welcome , I appreciate it =)  the car here is only called i30 =)

I live up north in norway 6 months of daylights and 6 months of night time , so not enough hot sun here to my mine go pink ;P

But my last car was red as well and I kept it VERY clean and fresh , i polished it every other month , and washed it once a week .

IM a neat freak :D

I will post pictures when it comes back from bodyshop after respray

This car it seems has painted them or am I wrong ?

It is very tricky to separate the existing lights and paint them..You need a lot of heat and too much will ruin them. The heat generated by the lights would make Vinyl unsuitable for the purpose. The Black reflector lights from the later model are interchangeable but not cheap to buy from the Dealer...

The ones in the picture could very well be painted.

They are not always on ebay. You might have to try the local Hyundai Dealer (they should be available as a spare part) But be warned you may be looking at several hundred Euros each... :whistler:

Headlights is the right word...

true, but its one of the one i wanted the most haha

I wonder the chrome bits on the bumpers, are they  plastic molding ? or acutally part of the bumper it self ? can t be removed if not painted or will it leave a hole ?

Also the roof railing wonder if its possible to remove as well , i like cars clean and i feel it  has many bits i dont like especially the chrome bits, as it dont work on red cars, grill as well might just vinyl it black or even carbon or might do it red =)

true, but its one of the one i wanted the most haha  That is often the way  :disapp:

I wonder the chrome bits on the bumpers, are they  plastic molding ? or acutally part of the bumper it self ? can t be removed if not painted or will it leave a hole ? I think you could mask around them sand them lightly and then paint them (but add a clear coat after to protect the paint)

Also the roof railing wonder if its possible to remove as well , i like cars clean and i feel it  has many bits i dont like especially the chrome bits, as it dont work on red cars, grill as well might just vinyl it black or even carbon or might do it red =)
The end caps come off with a bit of force then they can be unbolted

so what your saying is taht the chrome bits around on the bumpers are part of the bumper and not double sided tape ?

Also the roof rail I can remove it ? completly so its gone ? or will it have bits left ?

so what your saying is taht the chrome bits around on the bumpers are part of the bumper and not double sided tape ?

I think they are probably part of the bumpers and if not would be hard to remove and may leave marks or a hole .. You could try looking under the bumper to see if there are any visible clips or such things..

Also the roof rail I can remove it ? completly so its gone ? or will it have bits left ? The rails would be gone would just have the mounting points

indeed, just had a check on the paint, and they painted both doors, on each side and front fenders, they left out the one side of the rear bumper but matched the other one lol not sure why they did that ....  but il just buff it down and it will be same color,, red is such a hard color to make perfect each place , but  I cant wait for summer it will be perfect =)

You mean you can see a difference in the paint?????   I had work done last year after a lady rammed my car in the side, the work is invisble to me.  My cousin who has been a painter of cars for most of his working life said it was 'minted', when he says it's minted that is high praise indeed.

I am still unsure if I want to keep the front this way might go for all black instead but will see, right now its protecting the chrome thats all that matters.

I'm lovin' the "You liked this" sticker below the rear plate!  But I'm not so fond of covering up the chrome bits - but then again I chose a silver-ish colour on my car when an identical red one was right next to it at the dealership, so we've got different tastes.

Yeah i didt get to chose color and if i did i would chose silver to ;)
BUt i got this as it was used, and its  a lot better then nothing  :D

RIght now i am thinking of taking of the red vinyl on the grill and make that black or even carbon, and then just leave the rest =)

Thanks for comments much appreciated =)

Yeah they might have it , only way to get the right one is to use an ORACAL fan, or a M3 one , to match your cars paint then they can find the right vinyl to fit ,

Next plans are maybe making my car roof Matt black,

Also had some plans of maybe aksing work if I got sponsored I would totally matt black all of it , but will see  =)

I'll tell you what, glac, they all look great :goodjob:

I found the best way of viewing the pics is to click the first pic, then use our highslide viewer (and move forward arrow) to compare the pics as they superimpose on each other :D

I prefer number 3

Here are the pictures you can really see how nice the red vinyl goes on the car, and I am keeping the front as it is, I dont want to spend money on vinyl, as i love the red " clean "look ,
But the white wheels is what im unsure of might just go with silver ones or something or dark grey.

I think it was 2i30's who worked out how to get the clips off each end that cover the bolts  (I will try some searching) My guess is you just prise them up with something flat like a chisel (they will be tight)

Apparently I worked out how to do it according to this thread .. See UM's post

Hi Glac,

The top model in Australia (the SR) comes with

225 x 45 x 17

I think these are a good compromise between cost/ride and appearance...

Being an old f**t I would not go any bigger as I like a bit of comfort these days..

This is what an SR looks like with that size

OK now. A woed of caution. In the first pic if you look closely you'll notice that the tyres' beads are pulled way out past the shoulder of the tyre.
This means the rim is too wide for the tyre fitted. Sometimes this is done because the owner wanted the widest possible rims but couldn't/ wouldn't fork out for the more expensive correct tyre size.
In other instances it's done out of necessity  to allow the tyre to fit under the guards because the rim is either too wide or the offset is wrong.
Either way the result is a tyre on which the sidewalls will not be able to flex the way they are designed to do. Which results in a harsh ride and less tha optimum grip due to the footprint being distorted.
In fact, those tyres already seem to be showing some excessive shoulder wear.

Hei Mate

Thanks for reply . I am personally more into lower profile tires then ride comfort :P , as i see that there is quite a bit of tire on those wheels , but I appreciate you posting image and telling me your opinion great stuff !;)

It is nice to know that I can use 225 tires, but I was thinking 17 x 225 40 on my wheels, but i need to find out what the stores her can give me

" Surferdude "

Thanks for that mate , i like the rims being thicker then tires, but It is a risk as the rims can get scuffed really easy =)

But i was thinking of more the " tire profile " on them pictures as for me they look spot on on tier profile and rim size =)

We will see what I do i will post images later thanks again to both of you =)

Also another thing i was wondering, how would I go about " blacking" out my lights headlights, like do i have restrictions to paint them I would like to buy black stock ones but DAMN they are so expensive, so I was thinking of doing this
(http://i492.photobucket.com/albums/rr288/whiteslx/Korean%20Pics%20First%20Half%202012/pds_photo_16122_201106011440434624_4-1.jpg) I think this looks odd but it might be the only way I can do it .

But this is what I really want but is it legal at all ? and will I lose my reflectivity in the headlights by doing this ? =)

It can be done (and has been done) there are discussions on here about it.. BUT be warned it is not easy and they can be ruined in the attempt. The glue that holds the lights together has to be heated to soften it in an oven or by some other means and if you heat the lights too much  :sweating: :fum:

I personally wouldn't try it... :whistler:

It might pay to see if you can pick up a second hand set and do the work on those, carefully and at your leisure. Then just swap them over when you're satified and sell off the others or keep as spares.
That way, you're not under the pump time-wise and you can take your time and do a good job.

not sure as u see from the pictures its quite glossy I havent seen this before, and I do like it, but everyone has MATT and iT does somehow make it look more stock

also thinking of doing this just with red instead of white

Why not carbon fiber to match your roof?   Might be tricky, but would look sick.

Are your rims matte or gloss?
Title: Re: ShineRed i30 CW from Norway
Post by: Glacius on June 13, 2012, 11:54:25
it wont be good as vinyl on palstic is not good also its to many rounded edges and also tiny spaces,

I got satin black spray now and red caliper spray ^^

The rims are glossy , I wanted them like that to matchthe car paint, also got my hands on some " plastidip " that I will paint the wheels matt black later ^^

It's probably better if you post just one picture directly into the gallery, while adding the other 11 as [img] links into the "description" box. That way all your pics fit into a single gallery entry and you can add more and more as you want (keeps you in full control) :D

Like Dazz, how do you get such great effects, are you using photoshop ?

To be honest, haven't seen the right one yet.

The camo was very busy and in Aus, cars with those schemes are usually commercial vehicles with advertising or pizza delivery.

Would you consider just a small mod like Dazz has on his Camry.

You might get a scheme from the Korean pics that Seoul mate posts too.  :goodjob2:

Just had a look glac, some fine work there. :goodjob2:

Don't know what theme you're after and I can't draw it for you, but what about a racing chequered flag in black that starts at the rear door, sweeping up at the rear.

Something like this

http://t3.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRUy3tvzwRJWHylX7lOO5XngtA2m1u8fctPaXJTsw7wI8kU37iChQ (http://t3.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRUy3tvzwRJWHylX7lOO5XngtA2m1u8fctPaXJTsw7wI8kU37iChQ)

HI Phil

Appreciate your reply, I am not a huge fan of checkered flag nor something that has been done before ;) im all up for uniqe and special, something that will draw attention and eyes, I think white top will be my choice, as its s more eye cathing and with the wheels i have now painted white it will be even better ;)

But I do appreciate your reply ;)

Man that camo job looks the business. So does the white and red half and half paint job. Not overly sold on white rims, but that is a personal opinion.

Incidentally, is that Tromsø? If so, it's a beautiful place, although I imagine it is particularly cold and dark of late. I would love to get back there for a full winter to see more of Norway than just Oslo & Tromsø, especially when there is a bit more snow around. The first week in December 2011 was a bit light on in snow.

Hi Mate its close I live in Harstad, its  4 hours south of Tromsø =)

I might do the white half top , as its different and not seen very often red on black is overused imo , will see i will get a Roof rack and ski rail / box in a couple of weeks =)

Good for you !
Next week I'll get my roof rack & rear spoiler, too.  :happydance: Next step is to buy a roof trunk.
But I'm not able to buy plastdip, because that's from overseas and is regarded as dangerous goods. Otherwise I'd like buy it in gun gray and to do it on my wheel alloy.  :blubber:

I mentioned on here somewhere there is a red CW with wheels just like yours that I see occasionally and I reckon the colour combination is great.

A bit Ironic though as you are about to change the colour of yours

appreciate the comments guys, because of the ! finish" of the  grey area I had to remove it as the vinyl would not stick to it =(
So my other Choice now is to " plastidip" it red in stead, it will sit better only thing is the steering Wheel wont have same treatment as I cant plastidip that =(

So I might even not do it at all and just have it Stock, its a shame =( I really liked it .

also my matt grey metallic vinyl arrived today soon it will be Applied :D

Great work. The carbon "stickons" look better than I thought they might.

If my car were younger I might consider those LED clusters, but not at that price (even though the circuit board is shaped to fit).

Keep 'em coming, moneybags :P

Hi guys

MIght get my vinyl on this weekend if the weather is ok,   if its sunny I wont cus he wont do it in nice weather haha  so PRAY for rain :P

Also changed the Light bulbs on the car, HD  on fog and headlight, LEDs, cus I wanted "white" look sadly the fogs are not as white as I hoped but its a breath of fresh air ^^

Before Left
After RIGHT
(https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/27332977/I30%20Fairing/Summerlook/Details/20130525_115631.jpg)

HD 5000 K foglights  blue bulb, wish it was whiter =(
(https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/27332977/I30%20Fairing/Summerlook/Details/20130525_152520.jpg)

Here you can see the LED bulb it has light from every direction :P
(https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/27332977/I30%20Fairing/Summerlook/Details/20130525_233023.jpg)
Super bright!

FInal Result, its better but I wish it was whiter at the Fogs, but they might get Yellow vinyl once i get the new color on the car on

ALso when changing the fog lights there are A LOT easier way to do it then I did first time, first i removed the healdight and changed it like that put my hand down and did it on right side, but on left side the stupid washer tank is in the way <.< so I had to improvise, so what I did was smart as hell, i removed a little " lid " under the bumper of the car on front 3 sqrews, you just take them out its sorta clips with Star screw, and once you have that lid of you can acutally just go under the car and change the fog took me shorter time then I did removing the headlight ^^

Any questions let me know

I might look small but this is quite a big house! , in Norway houses that are 200m2 are big, this is also half price compare to what it would cost same size house in city =)

So It had to happen, today in Town i manged to " curb " my right front wheel =(  I am gutted, I got some plastidip today so now I am thinking entire wheel RED so my car will be simliar to this

So guys could use some help here

I cant decide which to chose form, red wheels and details, bronze wheels and details and or complete red wheels with red details, which is best ?

Wheels red with details, keeping the chrome edge on wheel

All wheel red
(https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/27332977/helr%C3%B8d.jpg)

Red outline with black wheel
(https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/27332977/redoutlne.jpg)
Or Bronze
 (https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/27332977/bronse.jpg)

These are just some quick renders.

Thanks guys , yes it will be option 1, that reason that it is already curbed and its not as noticble now, also the problem I have is that the wheel look "smaller" with that edge " but it also make its " cleaner" so I will make the wheel centre red and rest edge stock )

thanks fellas

Hopefully this week the rear bumper will be done , I will do some fixes on it today to make it ready.

Nope it will be ALL Red, that reason alone i cant be really bothered to "mask" out the edge I do not think it will be pretty, so all red it is =)  just to make the wheel look bigger as well =)

Thanks for all feedbacks much appreciated =D

Title: Re: ShineRed i30 CW from Norway
Post by: Glacius on June 11, 2013, 07:53:55
yeah i know you all like the bronze, problem is I have to re paint the wheels 2 times
first i have to paint it black, then I have to repspray it with the bronze in hancer, problem is I dont even know if its a nice bronze either as it has never been done before on these type of wheels. IT is plastidip which I can peel off as well if I dont like it , but i will try red first to see if its "to much "i can just peel it of and go all black or bronze =)

I will post pictures once i have done either choice I made the emblem H at the front same color as the car now its much better looks subtle now, also I want to do somethin with the headlights but its so much I have to be carefull with so I might not do it I will see if I get time =)

Thanks again and sorry if I am not doing the right thing :P

also got the wheels painted black with plastidip,. they look MAD! now and I like the all black look also make them look bigger, here is a piture of them after I got em painted what you recon, might add some " metalizer" for  metallic effect or migth just leave them..

Well Glac, you've really put a lot of work into your car. So much red has been removed, you could actually pick any colour you like for the light surrounds, as long as it compliments the calipers they certainly stand out, in red. Not sure about the red nuts though.  ;)

Otherwise I think it looks about right with just the red calipers and red highlights in the headlights.. :goodjob:

so after some time new wheels are on, really made the brake calipers POP, now I am thinking, should I respray the headlights black and then make the wheels bronze ,or keep it the way it is, and then get some tints and lower it  ...

Must admit I'm not a fan of black wheels so would be interested to see how they look in bronze....  :undecided:

So after a while now, the door handles vinyl has not been a success =/  they have started to open up, so today I will get some matt black military plastidip to paint them I feel it is the only way to make it perfect, cus right now it looks bad =/ ;
ON another note some good news! the rear bumper is primed and ready for Vinyl! :D so tomorrow its vinyl time for that =D once that is done car is complete, then tint and badge on front is the only part left

I have looked at making the wheels bronze, but I do not think it will go well with the red calipers =)  but we will seee ;)

3. camo pattern on the car, not to man just something like this   https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=667836019910680&set=a.242090715818548.73257.242071229153830&type=1&theater (https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=667836019910680&set=a.242090715818548.73257.242071229153830&type=1&theater)

Usually I hate grey cars witha passion, but yours the way it is now is very classy, even I could live with it,as for the Camo vynl,no sorry but I would leave it the way it is,along with the red bits in the lights,it looks like a feature, the bronze wheels would set it all off, thanks for sharing the pictures

anyway, yes my woman HATES my car :P and no she cant get mad as its only pennys I spend and i just got our self a house :P so she cant talk :P

I will see about the camo pattern, but I think it will work I will remove it next year as it will be applied with rapid air vinyl that comes of easy ^^ ^

And i will paint the headlights cus the red kills the look if I say I want white wheels or purple etc, so thats why I want to paint them so its a sorta blank canvas ;)

thanks for funny comments makes my day ^^  I will show pics as soon as I get to it

Hi guys

hope you all are well and had a great summer! , I got another car update *  NOOO YOU DONT SAY!"**yeah  :P

This time I took the weekend and changed my wheels again I was not happ with the outcome of the wheels they looked like RUST and it made me annoyed, so last night I started masking them and painting them, I removed all the old plastidip and added only black on the outher ring, and added silver on top, this made it look like the vinyl I have on my car now, so its a much CLEANER look, l and I also painted the calipers GOLD this compliments the wheels so much I love it, thisis the final look you willl see on my car, reason is I am SELLING it ,yes its gonna be sold before this winter =( because of my new house and the horrible road to it I have to get a new car, my dad works for mistubishi so this is what I will get an 2010 OUTLANDER, 4x4 I am very exited about this as this is a great car, and my dad can get me a really good price, so here is the model http://www.finn.no/finn/car/used/object?finnkode=43554236 (http://www.finn.no/finn/car/used/object?finnkode=43554236)

Anyway I hope I can still hang out with you guys as you are deffo the most friendly community I have been on and I cant tell you how much I appeciate you all,

I will leave you with my final car images,

So guys, today is the day,  I have to give it back now, but here is a small runtrough of the car ( My first time revewing so dont expect anything magic :P  )

Exterior:

I love the look of this car its really sleek and it looks agressive even in stock mode . the headlights are good at night, not the best ( Miss xenon ) but more then enough especially when the 1000Meters highbeams are on its like day light at night .

The rear lights are one of my fav they look so mean at night and the details in them creates a " modern" look, like led but even though it is not.

The door handles look modern I love that they are MATTE black / satin finish same with the mirror, dont have to worry about stone chips etc wich is great.

The car from side view to me looks like a lower car then from front and rear, this I find is wierd not sure why but this could easy be a " wagon "

The booth lid has a soft touch button to open, and the lid goes quite high so no risk of banging your head on it wich is nice.

THe side " design " lines are something that catches you eye instantly it flows really well from the front fender to the rear of the front door  and same from rear fender to the front of the back door quite a modern feel and it also makes it look quite aero dynamic.

Interior:

THe cockpit feel quite fresh, and modern iMO this is not everyones view but I like it love the steering wheel as its small and nimble EXTREMLY easy to drive this car, and its light as a feahter to steer,

The driver seat could have done with some more " side " support as I feel that sometimes I get thrown around a bit but this is just a minor thing.

The only thing I find wierd is that there is no automatic adjustment for the AC, this is wierd cus my car is from 2008 and this is from 2011, and even though its not PREMIUM model it should have this, I missed this from my car cus I find it quite nice that you can just set a certain DEGREE and it would make the inside of that car close to that, but as I said minor detail.

The display is nice, shows you what GEAR you should be in, like if you drive in 4th and car says no go to 5th I can handle it for better ECO thats a nice thing to have.

The fuel meter, outside degree meter, and oil and that is placed nicely in the centre of each " gauge ( speedometer ) not in your face but still there to catch your eye when you drive.

Handling:

I think the car is quite nice to drive, the handling it self is a bit woobly at worst expespecially if you go to roads that are on outside town where they are more uneven.

The car it self is VERY easy to drive and i mean VERY, it felt not like it was almost 2 tons of car but rather it felt easier to drive then my own one and that is only 1,2 ton,. strange but they managed to get this down right.

The geering could have been done smoother Its like hyundai you feel that its not smooth when you gear but I am used to this so for me this is no big deal, engine on idle is very quiet compare , my friends C5 CItroen was A LOT louder on this area.

The wheels are 225/60/17 I recon 245 and 55 could be a nicer drive cus it has some " railing " ( drives a bit into the groves  ) on this setting but its not as much as my car on 215 /40/17 .

So something nice its a 136 BHP diesel powered engine in this and it GOES !, the Acceleration is quite strong.

I do like the feel of the car when you reach a cruising speed, it has some tire/ road noise but I am used to that.

There is a 4x4 lock button , and a hill decent button that are quite handy the best bit is that this car has the same 4x4 system as the KUGA and the 4motion VW meaning that it is 2 WD / FRD until it feel it needs 4x4, so the fuel consumtion is quite low  around 0,65 per 10km wich is not bad at all.

I could write so much more on this car, but this is just a small review/preview of it I am still not 100% sure if I am sold on this, I know for a fact I will miss my car dearly, but then again it was nice to drive something where I did not have to worry about holes in the road, where to park and so on, cus I have worries on my car daily this I could relax and just know that this car can take me anywhere.

so the score

PROS
easy to drive
looks good
spacious rear seats
4x4 system
Interior
Adjustable steering wheel  ( VERY handy , and much more settings then other cars I have driven )
Alloy wheels are stock on all models

CONS
Small booth.
A bit woobly on side roads ( soft suspention )
No automatic AC
No parking sensor on this model, but on all others
Not enough side support in seat

My rating from 1 to 10 would be a  8.5 out of 10

Hi guys, hope you all are well

Unfortunately that car is now sold =/  the dealer could not give me high enough price for my car, so I had to reject the offer , a bit sad because I really liked the car, but I now have my eye on a 4x4 SKODA SCOUT that is in southern Norway area I am waiting for the dealer to come back from holiday so I can talk about trade in,

here is a link to the add , and some pics, its in Norwegian =)

I love the look of this car and they say that Skoda is great cars and their 4x4 system is quite good

Hi Glac

That 1,9 TDI is a great engine.

I also like the Scout version of the Octavia. The dual zone a/c and the cc is nice features as well.  :happydance:

Only problem is the boot. There's too much room for all the bits and pieces...  :snigger:

hi guys

I keep getting so damn unlucky!!!  they sold it also!! without telling me!! =/  devestated

but guess what I have a new car on loan today! :D

Honda CR-V 2008 model

here is some info on it
http://pal.finn.no/pal/harstadbilmarked/car/used/object?finnkode=44486116 (http://pal.finn.no/pal/harstadbilmarked/car/used/object?finnkode=44486116)
I have had this car one day now and i Have to say this car is MUCH better then the iX35 and that suprised me since this car is 3 year older... it is in imaculate condition almost perfect looks brand new, its champagne color wich looks great and it good comfort in ride. also cruis controll and manual 6 speed gear box and with reverse so taotal of 7 gears, panoarama roof and much more I love this car, I never tried CR-V but after trying it sometime I love it, this might be my new car IF i get the price I want, its a bit expensive now and since I do not get full refund on mine in trade in I will only accept if they lower the price with  aourd 1000$ so we will see , so change the SKODA to HONDA now :P

I see it only has 3 months / 3000 km warranty so being a 4WD and a Honda it will be a must to get an independant mechanical check before you part with any $$

5 yo, 4 wd, 93k

Does it have full service history maintained by honda?

Is it possible to find out what, if any, work has been undertaken?

Defo needs to be checked before purchase

How many drivers? Not owners as each owner can have many drivers.
