Post by: Lakes on November 16, 2017, 02:26:46
Hi all , my father has a 1.8 auto petrol.
I was just talking about young guy next door  to me got a used 1.6 petrol accent think about 2006 2007 model, low k & he told me he thinks cam chain loose was aski g me for advice, was telling  y elceerly father& he said the 1.6 petrol uses a timing belt to drive cams, he also said he tbi ks his 1.8 has a cam drive  belt too. I just took it for granted as my two CRDi used a chain cam drive, gbe petrol would be the same. So can anyone tell me what they use?
I know looking i could see as belt never sdaled in like a chain drive as belt need to breath.
So can someone tell me what the 1.6 & 1.8 petrol use thanks

1.8 is definitely timing chain but don't know about 1.6 (assuming the same)

1.6ltr petrol in the GD is chain, not sure about earlier FD model :undecided:

Pretty easy to tell if it's belt driven or not, if there is no visible pulleys at the top end of head above drive belt it's chain driven.
