My 1.4 started on fourth attempt today after having been used a couple of times earlier in day. My better half said she had a couple of short journeys but when she came to start car to pick up the kids it would not start until the fourth time of cranking.

Anyone had similar issues?

Hello Gibber of Leeds,

If it plays up again check that there is a little yellow light in the shape of a car with a key in it just above the headlight mainbeam indicator, after you turn the ignition on. If there is no car with ket symbol then the transponder in the key is playing up. This has happened once or twice to people.

Of course it could be a number of other things.

Give her the other key if you want rule that out and dont want hassle.

Hi Lorian,

Would the immobiliser still let the engine crank over?

Cheers, it's in the dealership tomorrow for the suspension but will make wifey and garage aware of this issue. Would ECU record this?

Hi Lorian,

Would the immobiliser still let the engine crank over?

It wouldn't in mine, a few days ago I couldn't start the cw, it turned out to be the immobilser.

Now I'm confused...LOL

The ecu seems to record everything so its a shame there would be no record of an failed start, surely it would aid the mechanic.

i dont think there are any codes for it  but they could check anyway.

Interesting what trish said i thought it still cranked when immobilised.

Well I'm hoping thats what it was, after it not starting I got out locked the car, then unlocked it. It then started first go. Daz thought it was the immobiliser. let me know what you think

I was proud of her.. (Trish that is) I was having a shave and she came up stairs and said "what have you done to my car" I said "why?" and she said "it won't start" .. and I said "did you put your foot on the clutch?" She just rolled her eyes and went back down stairs mumbling (I yelled out "I'll come and have a look in a minute")

I then thought of the immobilizer and was going to suggest pressing the unlock button again ...

But she had already sorted it out by herself  :goodjob:

Dazz, you may not make it to 55.

As my son once said to me on e-mail from Canada after I said something to my wife which was asking for trouble, "Dad, I can't help you from here. You're on your own with this one".

Just looking at the pull-through text in Trish's sig, I suspect Dazz has been abusing his mod position again. :brilliant:

Yes. It happened to me while I was at the local shops.  I thought it was the cold, even though I never had any problems before.

Got home but next day wouldn't start.

I tried the spare key and it worked.  Turned out that I needed a new unit.

FOC under warranty

Coil in steering column appears to have been the problem, garage say it should be fine now. Time will tell. Cheers Lorian.
