No work today, nor for a few days next week either, which is a good job since, I went to the car this morning and it was as dead as a Dodo...

Not a bloomin glimmer out of it.  AAAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

The RAC said they'd come and start me for £63, I said 'not thanks'.  The dealership, after a few calls are comeing to start me later this afternoon (live just aruond the corner.   The techi guy says if the battery is goosed he has to order one and it'll be a day or so.  I said, will you be popping an spare in to keep me mobile, he said 'no' you'll have to leave it.   I have checked my work diary and I am not working for a few days now <thank God>.

The little work I do is self employed so if I had missed work because of this I'd have been frantic.....

Oh ummmm, this as dented my confidence in my shine red machine....

You can't jump start or just buy a battery charger?

Jump start it, and go to the nearest battery centre - buy a new one and send the bill to Hyundai :)

Thanks for the input guys, my old emergency starter pack went to heaven some long time ago  :o :o....

They've been an collected her and I asked the techi guy if I was gonna be charged,  he said 'nope, warranty this'....  He then regaled me with a story about this model having had a problem with the stereo draining the battery ??????

I have no idea if that was real or not, but I thought I'd pass it on to you guys because I know that many of you are techi peeps and it may or may not be of some use to you

Anyhow, it's gone to the doctors and I feel as if my legs have been removed   :scared: :scared: :scared:

Pip
I wonder how he knew you just didn't leave the door ajar? Anyway, accepting warranty responsibility is very good. We'll be interested to get the wash up.

Did they say why there would be a charge?

The RAC said that my cover, Breakdown and Recovery, didn't cover Home Start ....  So the charge would be to join their HOME START....  my reasoning was that with a new car, well 14 mnths old car, how many times am I gonna need a home start, so I said no.

It'd be cheaper to buy a booster starter and have it on stand by, if it were needed at all.....

Is jump-starting recommended? I've heard something about damaging the catalyst.

I'm guessing there is the risk of a surge.. I haven't googled it but been warned to be careful about using jumper leads on modern cars with lots of electronics by several mechanics over the years...

Edit: Just did a google and apparently there is a risk of frying the engine management module (ECU?) although the risk may be reduced if the leads have inbuilt surge protection.

I ain't putting jumper leads near my Hybrid for anybody .. way to many electronics to damage in her  :o

and I won't be driving through any flooded roads either  :sweating:

Do you live on a hill?

You could have let it roll quarter of a mile then called them out

When my complimentary cover expired I rang the RAC and asked if they did deals for Hy owners.

They did and I got roadside, recovery and home start at 50% of normal price which at the time was cheaper than  roadside and recovery!

Nah, she lives in her garage whicb sadly has a slight upslope from the door to the road.... otherwise, I would have done a rolling start.  I presume that a rolling start in third is a safe way to start...

do warn me if it's a no no, it was always my first way out of trouble when much much younger and driving round in old smokers   :faint: :faint:

Asa - Check the Handbook.  For mine, diesel, it says not to push start.

Anyway not having the motor running will make steering nigh impossible.

While the car is off (we've only had a couple of instances of that SC but not in an SR as far as I can recall)

Thanks for that duhhhhh.... your quite right oh ummmm   :faint: :faint:

I've started mine on a roll a couple of times for no particular reason other than I was pointing down hill.

No trouble at all. Kick it over in third (second might be a bit stiff), change down to second and off you go...

It might not work though if the battery is too flat to power the ECU or does it have a dead failed state that allows the engine to run without a functioning ECU?

I just phoned the dealership and this is what he said.   They had a circular regarding battery's unexpectedly discharging within a certain VIN No range and the solution is to fit a lead, this was followed by some techno waffle about a *dischagre lead to the bodywork??????*

He said that my car is not within the VIN no range but that they're, never the less, going to fit this lead which is on order and will arrive tomorrow after which I will get my car returned to me.

I am not filled with the warm fuzzy feeling of confidence, but hey oh, we'll see what we see !!!!!!

 :'( :'(

I am hoping and praying that it's solved   :scared: :scared: :scared: :scared: :scared:
