When I try to start my 2009 i30 auto the key/immobiliser warning light flashes.  This means the immobiliser hasn't disengaged.  After a few tries the light stops flashing and the car starts.  Anyone got any ideas?

Its going to be the SMATRA immobiliser coil, known to fail, there is a TSB for it so in theory it might be replaced for free even out of warranty. There is a thread with the P code it fires, maybe on the thread already quoted.

Immobiliser does not use the battery in the key. its powered by induction.

Its in Manchester - how did you know? The engine cranks but doesn't start. I realise it isn't a battery or key problem because it happens with both keys and I changed the batteries. It also happens in different locations so it isn't interference.
What is  a TSB ?
How much would it cost to change the smatra immobiliser coil?

Ring dealer. Talk to service manager. Describe fault. Mention someone said 'there is a  tsb to replace the immobiliser antenna/coil'. Then ask 'can it be replace free of charge'.

If answer is yes then :-)

If answer is no then
       A) argue OR
       B) write cheque for maybe £200-£300 I guess

Still worth asking if can be done free of charge. If you don't want to approach the dealer ring Hyundai customer care and ask them.

Hyundai customer services say that this has never happened before and there is no TSB. They just advise me to go to a dealer who will charge for diagnostics and possibly not find the fault.

They are lying (or simply have their heads in the sand) and you do not need to pay for diagnostics... we've already done that for you.

There were 4 codes - C1260 steering angle sensor circuit signal, C1513 brake switch circuit error, B2505 passenger airbagon/off warning lamp failure, C1103 ignition voltage fault.
They just said I need to leave the car with them at £70 per hour.
Any suggestions?

Yeah, auto electrician, head for the ign voltage problem. Others should be warranty, IMO. Get a quote first.

C1260 Could be related to the C1103 (see below). However  there can be bigger issues. What is the exact build date of the car?
C1513 Has your car had the brake light switch recall applied which replaces the switch?
B2505 My guess a red herring, but just a guess

Have you had a flat battery at any time? That could account for several codes.

So from the link above, comment that C1260 could be related to C1103, and cruiserfied's question - I am getting the impression that low battery voltage can cause EPS to enter a fault mode, which would happen when starting the car.   Correct?   Not saying it would be the only cause, but possible?

Just asking because I had my battery replaced between the first and second services to look at my EPS when it went faulty - they replaced the steering column under warranty on the second one.

C1513 is the brake switch.

Other things likely to have been done would be the headlight wiring fix or the drivers door cable replacement, or of course the SMARTRA immobiliser coil, which still may have been part of your original issue. Why not ring and ask, say you were just curious.
