Is this a space saver? Or maybe just a full size steel wheel?

If a ss, will a full size wheel fit in the wheel well without being proud of the top edge?

Thinking about buying another alloy.

I agree...

In urban areas you can call roadside service BUT don't relie on there being a public phone handy so must have mobile phone.

Outside these areas you are stuffed as mobile phone signal may be poor.

Good pair of walking boots in the boot required.....

The ultimate space (and money) saver ...... If i get a blow out (God forbid) i'm screwed and my alloy rim is shot, so i'll need a flat bed or tow-truck.

This kit is just for punctures, to get you to the garage for a new tyre.

More and more cars are being supplied with then instead of a spare wheel (SS or full size).

We know what the kit is for, it's just bloody ridiculous that over there it's accepted.

Plus once you car get towed to the garage are they going to have the correct tyre to match your other three? you could be waiting a very long time if not and it's a huge inconvenience for something that if the correct instrument ( spare tyre ) was in the back you could change it yourself in 10-15minutes and be on your way.

Now here are 3 questions i have grappled with......

Why only 1 spare, full or space saver, when you have 4 on the car

I wonder what the odds are for more than 1 needing to be replaced at same time

If you use the goo why wont the car manufacturer reimburse you the additional cost you may incur to remove the goo from the wheel before the new tyre is mounted.  It is them who made the decision to provide the goo and not a spare........

Just as an aside.
Owners who do not have a spare, was it mentioned to you during the buying process or was it once bought/first puncture that you realised no spare?

I can probably answer one of those, and an engineer might be able to help with it.

Why only one spare?  It is risk vs reward.  I will just pluck some figures here for arguments sake.  The chance of having a flat tyre may be 1 in 1000 trips, therefore there is a chance you will get a flat once every thousand trips.  The chance of getting two flats in one trip is not 2 in 1000, but now 1 in 1000000!!  The chance of getting three flats is 1 in 1000000000, and the chance of getting four flats is 1 in 1000000000000!!  So, it isn't worth carrying the extra wheels and tyres because the cost of carrying it (space and weight wise), far outweighs the benefit of carrying them, you are unlikely to use them.

As I've stated before, that is why I carry a bomb on an aircraft.  The chance of there being a bomb on an aircraft are very small, the chance of there being two bombs on board is almost impossible.  Therefore if I know there is one bomb on board (i.e. mine), then there is unlikely to be another one on board.  BTW, I promise I won't set it off, unless I don't get the G&T that I ordered ten minutes ago!!

Okay, the chance of me getting stop sticked by the rozzers is probably even money.

well, all i can say is Get used to Goo and a Pump, coz that is spreading like wild fire. Of course, i can always buy a rim and tyre as a reserve if i wish.

Oh, btw, the goo doesn't get on the rims if you do it properly  :)
