Wonder could it be done via the ECU?

Possibly?

Welcome fetflex to the forum, hope you have a long association and some fun with the rest of us here.

I think when this question was raised most agreed that we wouldn't want to do this due to noise issues. If for whatever reason you need or wish to, you would need to find an activated wire to take a signal from the use a relay to fire the horn. I'm not aware of such a signal wire but the ECU obviously is. It could be a complex job, but anything is possible if you want it enough.

My previous car (Seat Ibiza Sport) could be programmed to beep when locking/unlocking with the fob by an adapter called VAG-COM as well as varying the weighting of the power steering and a few other bit and bobs like closing the windows automatically when you lock the car. I'm not sure if something similar exists for our i30's but if not then I suspect the dealer will have a gizmo to access the variable functions.

Hi fetflex

Welcome to this wonderfull place.  :D

Having the horn sound when locking the doors makes no sense to me. There's allready the turnsignals flashing, and to be absolutely sure the car is locked, you need to grab the doorhandle to see if the car is locked.

There have been stories about people using these jammers that obstruck the signal from the remote, and if I was your neighbour I would be annoyed about the horn sounding every morning...

I'd find the remote opening & closing of the windows really useful, Mrs Ffoxy's 2003 Fiat 1.2 Stilo had that function.

Thanks for all the answers.

My thought was in car parks and such where it can be a hassle to find the car sometimes it would be nice to have an feature that sounded the horn. But as I can see its not an standard feature, so it can't be done without mods?

The window auto roll up feature would be really neat.

there is 2 sets of horns on the i30... one under the bonnet and one behind the grille... run a power to the under bonnet horn from the indicator trigger on the alarm side of things and it would work... obviously one beep, then the two beeps for lock and unlock :)

It would depend from where the "indicator" supply was taken as both indicators only flash together  when the hazard lights or door locking are operating.

Or fit a changeover relay to  supply current  from indicators to horn only when the ignition is off..............

.... or fit an independent piezo buzzer instead of using the alarm horn?

Strangely I have just had a problem with the door locking.
The driver's side rear door wouldn't unlock from the outside occasionally unless the button on the driver's armrest was used. Yesterday I couldn't  lock the car with the remote and although the remote light was blinking  nothing happened. Using the key in the driver's door locked it but didn't lock the rear door.  Quick look in the handbook gave some advice which had no effect.  Then I walked round the car and opened, then shut, each door in turn after which all was normal.

It's a 2010 Elantra Touring (same as an i30cw but re-branded for North Americans).

Same for me. Canadian model. I often do it if I'm walking away and I'm too lazy to look back at the flashing lights

I found that pressing unlock and tailgate together turns auto locking on or off.
