Any decent forum would have this info in its Tech Data section. I'm cooking atm then outside for some paving work otherwise I'd get right on it...

Hi Steve and Steve.. I'm 99 % certain (without checking) the low beam (projectors are H7 and the outside lights - High Beams) are H1

Betsy is still on original globes, i'm always thinking she does not have the best lights for the bush at night, but with the temps we can experience here i was worried if i changed to a more powerfull high beam they might fail from heat.
how do other aussies feel?
and how are our international members finding the stock i30 lights?

All the bulbs/globes are listed in this thread:

https://www.i30ownersclub.com/forum/index.php/topic,4829.0.html

Keep in mind the headlight bulbs are different in the USA market (elantra touring), and the foglight bulbs vary quite a lot from country to country.

Also note, in the state of NSW AU a new law has just come into force making it illegal to use fog lights in daytime unless there is a fog. also note if you get booked for this you loose points of licence. i don't know why they are bringing this law in , and i don't have a problem with people useing fog lights myself. just thought i would mention it.

Its against the law here too unless you wear a tracksuit and drive a 1995 corsa with a bodykit.

Mainly because most peple treat them as driving lights and have them pointing skyward.
Speaking as a long distance coach driver, it is bloody annoying to come up against some idiot with their fog light on with no fog. Stuffs up your night vision something chronic, not to mention the rear facing fog light some cars have.

I recall that thread, I think there was proof in there somewhere that yellow bulbs were actually less use in fog than white ones.

I haven't seen yellow fog lights on a car over here for at least a decade!

I've got some comments here which might help.
But firstly, a question of Lakes.
I'm surprised at your statement that NSW "just" brought in a law regarding use of fog lights when there is no fog.
When we moved down there in 1994, we were told by a local cop that use of fog lights when there's no fog was illegal then. I'm also sure one of my salesmen was fined for using them in the Hornsby area when there was no fog. However, it's all circumstantial, hence my question to you about the timing of the new law.
Certainly it was only introduced in Qld last year and is one of my pet hates when people drive with them on.
As someone said above, they are often poorly aimed and have a detrimental effect on night vision.
Now, as to their effectiveness.
In my early rallying days we used to fit them if we were competing in winter and knew we were heading up onto the Darling Downs. Orange was best (IMO). On one occasion we rocked up to the start and found last minute reports of fog for that night so we went to a newsagent and bought some of that see through glassy looking wrapping paper in orange and taped it over two of the spotlights. Worked a treat and we finished 2nd out of 65 cars.
Anyway, the effectiveness of fog lights lies in their placement low down near the road as fog tends not to sit right on the ground. It often rises a bit, leaving a foot or so of clear air underneath and by lighting this up you can see through the fog better.
In addition (again IMO), it's not so much the colour of the lens/ light but the type of lens. A clear lens allows light to travel a long distance (picture an aircraft landing light). Fog lenses are generally of the diffuser type so the light doesn't travel as far and therefore doesn't get as much opportunity to bounce back at you.
That's my observations as a layman.
