Title: Kittikat on holidays
Post by: kittikat on November 02, 2014, 10:50:00
Evening all,

Lying on my bed in a hotel in Ho Chi Min City (Saigon if you prefer). We start our tour tomorrow.

Met our daughter yesterday, and got to hug her for the first time in 7 (count them!) months.

It is hot and humid here, very VERY busy and very noisy.  I have taken a few photos, but none I can post as I don't have any means to edit them. I will try to upload to photo bucket.

Can't  guarantee I will post much over the next two weeks, but I'll give it a try.

More motorbikes than private cars by a ratio of probably 1000 to 1. Lots of taxis. Crossing the road means taking your life in your hands as I think the road rules are more of a suggestion than anything else and don't seem to apply to the bikes anyway.

If it is like the rest of Asia crossing the road can be exciting!!  I've found that just walking without stopping is the best means, just keep the same pace.

Sorry guys, been a little bit busy. We have moved on from Ho Chi Minh (yes I know it was wrong last time.....(bl**dy American autocorrect).   :fum:

We have now moved into Cambodia, spent a couple of days in Phnom Penh and then moved up to Siem Reap.

There are only three others on our tour, making six of us, our tour guide and our driver. Great size for a tour, everyone gets on and we have been able to hang out together most of the time.

The 4th was my daughters birthday.  We went to the killing fields and the jail in Phnom Penh.  Damn, I planned that badly. What a heart breaking morning it was.  I think I am still recovering.  :blubber:

Then in the evening we went on a lovely boat cruise with dinner included.  :happydance:

We went to see Angkor Wat yesterday and returned this morning to see the sun rise.  :D

We move on to Battambang tomorrow then Bangkok a couple of days later. Hopefully I will get some photos up after we get home on the 14th. I think I have a bit over 400 already.

Try not to get up to too much mischief while I have my eyes off the play.

Very nice, Kitti. Today I attended a local high school graduation to speak and present the Long Tan Leader and Teamwork Award. I spoke about the battle for Long Tan and it always causes me a bit of a stir, even after doing it so many times.

We've been behaving without you - just goes to show you're the real troublemaker.

It sounds like you are having a great time, Kittikat.  Enjoy the rest of your holiday.

Thanks for sharing about your experience at the killing fields and jail.  I've found that the emotional tours and experiences are sometimes the best things about holidays.  They leave a mark which helps you remember the good times on holiday.

I agree with FatBoy, too. Port Arthur has thesame effect on me. For both its places in history.

Enjoy the rest of  your holiday. Unfortunately, some of the boys have been having a chat about you in some of the threads, so when you get home, you'll have to read pages of unread posts to catch up and they're mounting up as we speak.

To update....

We arrived in Bangkok today and will be here for the next four nights. The tour finishes tonight so we are on our own from tomorrow. My daughter has been here a couple of times, so we will do some sightseeing, some shopping and some resting with her before we head home.

Then I will upload my photos and post a few for you.

Our Bangkok stay was at the Patumwan Princess opposite MBK. The food courts at MBK were sensational. :goodjob:

Hoping to go to MBK tomorrow, which is our last day.

We fly out around 11 on Thursday and after an 8 hour stop over in Ho Chi Minh airport, we head home and arrive around 10 Friday morning.

It's gone so quickly.   :'(

We have Russian naval ships lingering off our eastern coast and some idiot from our Defence Force has been on radio telling us that it has nothing to do with the G20 and the fact that Putin is here.

Really?

When were they last here?

I am pleased to see that our PM has had some meaningful conversations with him though.  :goodjob2:

Well, here are a few.  I might add some more in the next few days.  I'm still sorting out photos and unfortunately there are too many other things around the house that need attention first.  :(
