Am doing a lot of reno's on my mothers house and all too frequently I find my self buying stuff that is simply too long to fit in the car and the delivery costs from Coffs Harbour to here are eye watering so am considering some roof racks.
The Hyundai genuine ones are rated to 75kg's which is more than enough but my concern is carrying longer wider objects like sheets of wood and stuff (2400 x 1200 MDF etc etc)...
Anyone carried long wide items on their cars ?

I carried a queen bed ensemble on my FD from Brisbane to Caloundra.
The racks were ROLA brand which were identical to the "genuine" Hyundai ones. I also regularly carried two 16 foot Kayaks on them. See Sig below.
In my experience, the weight carrying factor is less important than the danger of wind getting under whatever you're carrying.
If you carry sheets of wood, you need to brace them top and bottom with slats to prevent flex (and breakage) due to wind resistance.

Cheer surferdude, I figured it would be ok but wanted reassurance !!
Yeah supports for long floppy sheets of wood is a given.

If you'll pardon the pun, "given" some of the stuff you see on the highway, better to be sure than sorry. :victory:
BTW. The ROLA racks were considerably less expensive than the Hyundai ones which only differed in the brand sticker attached to them.

Many years ago I "Lost" an aluminum extension ladder on a back road at about 110 kph .
The semi about 200m behind me went over it with ease, :rip:

Ive done a search but can only find genuine ones for the PD.
I will keep searching though as the less I spend the better !

Interesting. They're normally quicker than that. Might be worth sending them an email asking how far off they are.
