Hi,
I am looking at purchasing a 2018 i30 Go in Australia. This model comes with the radio / head unit which does not have Sat Nav or DAB+ radio. Could anybody please tell me if I could simply swap this with a second-hand unit with the DAB+ and sat nav from eBay?
Thanks

Do you have a a link you could post up with the ebay unit ?

Ebay link below

Hi @brentk
I'm guessing the Go still has Android Auto. Why not just use Waze or Google maps via AA to navigate?
-
Thanks @Dazzler , yes it does have AA so that is my default option. Would be nice to have maps without having to plug in phone. This model also does not have DAB radio.

Fair call. We don't have DAB radio in Tassie as far as I am aware?
If you can swap with a Sat Nav unit from another model I wonder if you'll still be able to receive the free map updates at service time seeing your model doesn't normally come with it?

I might just give it a go if the installation is easy for DIY. Does anybody know where I can get step by step instructions or video how to replace this unit? All other instructions I have seen on this forum seem to be for a different type of unit. Google hasn't turned up anything for me either.

At a guess, the head unit alone (i.e. screen only) will be unlikely to be enough. For one the SD card with the maps is in the dash, under the screen no in the screen, so likely it has more parts that are not in the screen. I would check with a wrecker first...,
-
The head unit includes the SD card holder. Some eBay adverts I've seen also specifically include the map SD card.
-
How about the sd card hole though? The reader comes on the unit but the actual hole is above the hazard light button which I am pretty sure will also need to be replaced in order to accomodate the sd card.

This is a PDF for removing the stereo in the 2018 Elantra GT wich is the same car basically. Hope this helps a bit?
Also, if you deside to do this i badly want to buy your old head unit if you would consider selling it, i have been searching like crazy for the australian version without satnav but with no luck so far.

Hi Dazz,
You might want to retune your radio one day when you have nothing else to do and be amazed at the plethora of DAB+ stations we have now (at least in the south, assume the north is the same)
DAB+ was switched on sometime last mid last year. :winker:

If I am correct, the go version does not have the shark fin antenna which acts also as the gps antenna.

the seller in the ebay link also sells the shark fin..
I assume the wiring harness is also going to be needed too.

On that note, have just encountered 'Google's way of the future'.
Since 2012, I have been using Mapfactor . With their GPS Navigator 18 Free I can download maps for any world region and use Google search to pre-plot an extensive route.
BUT now Google & Yahoo require a personal account to be set up and they charge you for each search. :crazy1:

Thanks @Hati - if I go for it will look at trying to get the part that includes the hazard light switch and SD card slot as well.

Thanks for the link @jochen95 - that will definitely come in handy.
