Hi everyone
I've never posted on here before but I'm looking for some help
I own a 2011 which I brought brand new.
It recently broke down and I have had no issues with it at all before this. My mechanic diagnosed it and I still had 21 days of warranty so I returned it to the dealership I purchased it at. They said the same thing was wrong that my timing chain had skipped teeth and had  caused damage.
I have had so much trouble with them honoring the warranty and they are telling me that this has never happened to an i30 before so it must be my fault. My car has done less than 80,000km and it is well looked after .they are using every excuse possible and it's been there for more than 2 weeks and nothing's been done!
I just want to get some proof to show them if it has happened to someone else

Welcome.

Sorry to hear of your problem. It is certainly rare, but I seem to recall one other fairly recent mention. 

The fact it is not common shouldn't give them an out under warranty. Have you complained to Hyundai directly?

Ask them to explain (in writing) just how you are supposed to have caused it.

BTW. As this is in the Petrol section, I assume it's actually a timing "belt"
As I understand it the chain is used in the diesels.

I am waiting to hear back from Hyundai but from what the dealership mechanic told me he is getting directions from head office!

my car is definitely petrol and the mechanic said timing chain? im very confused now :/

Maybe the 1.6L has a chain. Mine's 2.0L. Someone else on here will know.

Has it been serviced at correct intervals and by whom?

Yes it's been service at all correct intervals but it was serviced at another reputable mechanic . they ask for all service paper work and Hyundai cleared it as nothing  had been replaced that wasn't genuine.

I think I'll ask for a report in writing explaining everything! Thanks everyone

Yes the 1.6 petrols are chain driven.

It seems very strange that a chain woukd have skipped teeth. There is minumal slack once all guides are in place even without the tensioner. Very strange. Are you sure there is nothing else to tell?

If your unhappy with the response and treatment from the dealer then you should contact Hyundai Customer Care ASAP. Let them know the whole story and they will help you sort it out.
