Bought a new set of locking wheel nuts that were advertised for the i30, i20 and i10. However it appears the adaptor hex size is too small for the tyre iron. Cannot find what the nut hex size is, have measured it and appears to be either 21 or 22mm?

Is it possibly a US imperial size - perhaps 7/8 inch across the flats.

Just a guess....  :Prayer:

Just checked my adapter - the hex nut is 21mm. If your new adapter is 21mm it should work with the supplied wrench (have you tried the wrench with the existing nuts?).

I've never used the supplied tyre wrench so I can't say if it fits (it should do as it came with the car); instead I carry around a multipoint wrench with 17/19/21/23mm at the corners. You can also get extendable wrenches for £7 off eBay if it comes to that.

Definately metric  :goodjob:

Then I don't understand your question - if it really is metric it will be either 21 or 22 mm across the flats. You will need to either measure it accurately or try the relevant metric spanners to assess the size.

Cheers Shambles, the locking wheel nut adapter is stepped and appears to be 18 and 19 mm. Therefore not suitable for my i30!  :blubber:

Gibber, I strongly suggest you follow Shambles' lead and buy yourself a 4 way (cross) brace. It will fit all common nut sizes and is INFINITELY safer than using the standard brace which comes with the car. It won't slip off and it will undo any nut no matter how tight it's been done up with an air gun.
And it'll fit in on top of your spare wheel.

Thanks for the advice, have brought one today. For the price it makes sense as it can be used on future cars too. I have not had a problem removing the nuts on any car yet but I may have been lucky. The only time I did have an issue was when a Fiat steel wheel rusted on to the hub!

When I first got my car I had to take it back to the dealer to loosen the locking nuts.

Now I tighten then just take it back a shade.  No problems since.
