Hi, I'm experiencing clutch shudder when the car is cold.  Anyone experienced this?  (2010 Aus Crdi CW with 25k)
Thanks . . .

I have heard about this problem in the past, does it only happen when the weather is damp?

Well remembered Daz.

The garage had the car in twice overnight and I went to the garage the next morning to drive the car from cold with the techi with me.

It did it on both occasions and witnessed by the techi but as it couldn't be pinpointed to a specific thing nothing was done.

Concluded that either:
(i) damp was sitting on the clutch plate
or and this was the final diagnosis
(ii) the ECU unit settings didn't compensate for the weather conditions, i.e. with a manual choke you would give it more choke to ensure a smooth run as the clutch was getting to the bit point and the revs drop.  By applying a bit more throttle it didn't happen..

Now It has been OK since but some 2 weeks ago when we had a bit of damp weather it was there just the once.

Due for its 4th year service next month so I will mention it again...

Thanks . . .

I have, but not with my i30.  I once had a Ford Pop.  I was eighteen and it was on sale as scrap so my bro bought it for me to thrash about it and get over the thrill of passing the driving test.  Well these cars were notorious for clutch shudder.   It was caused by the tie bars, which went from under the gear box to the back axle becoming worn so that the bolt holes became oval and allowed the bolts to move backwards and forwards = shudder.

I realise this is all ancient history to you guys, but it's just yesterday to me

Sorry I can't help ya out with modern cars, they're a bloomin mystery to me

In one of my early cars there was no synco and had to double declutch.......

Now that was an art in itself

Great memory - I didn't think to search for clutch judder or chatter.

Interesting thread too . .   I did notice this has only started over winter so it may be related to humidity.
I'll keep a closer eye on the weather when I have the problem & talk to the dealer at the next service.

Thanks everyone . . .
