I've got the airbag off and 4 screws holding the trim. It still won't budge. Any clues?

I'm feeling screws holding the control modules in place, but it seems the wheel will have to come off the column for these to be accessible. Am I on the right track?

Well, that was short lived. I was all set to go ahead and remove the steering nut but couldn't budge it (safely) with a big shifter and didn't have a big enough socket, so it's all back together good as old.

Yes, wheel off for trim removal, buttons need to come out, in fact I think full disassembly of the entire plastic covers.

nut could be 22mm and a puller is advisable. They don't always come free rocking the wheel.

Sometimes Supercheap have loose sockets for a $1 although it's been a while now .

I got interim approval to test the shifter idea within a sensible torque range. The Chief Engineer then decided to leave it to the appropriate socket size.  I've spent decades having technicians coming to me for special approval.

I does indeed look like 22mm. My biggest was a 21mm sparkplug remover.

Yep 22mm nut.
Remove nut and washer. Refit nut halfway. Give the wheel a couple of good hits to shock it loose. Jam your foot into the firewall and reef on the wheel while wriggling it.
I've never used a steering wheel puller, ever.

As for the plastic trim there is 4 or 6 screws and a couple of barbs that are pretty tight.
