A car manufacturer is attempting to produce a car live at a motoring trade show in the US – using a 3D printer.
Local Motors is printing the motor vehicle called ‘Strati’ in one piece, over a 44-hour period during the six-day International Manufacturing Technology Show 2014 in Chicago.
The car is being created using direct digital manufacturing (DDM) techniques and created layer by layer using 3D data and a 3D printer. This is typically cheaper than conventional manufacturing processes and enables objects to be printed on a smaller scale.
