Title: My car is dead.Only 3 months old.
Post by: not2oldru on October 17, 2011, 11:52:10
Driving to work today when rattle, crunch, bang from under the bonnet.Pulled over and shut the engine down for 15 minutes. After restarting still very loud and angry so called roadside assist.A half hour later I am told I will be towed in two hours.Almost 4 hours later the truck turns up and off we go to the dealer. There I am told "we will check it out and let you know whats up" and "no we do not have loan cars".So I had to ring a friend to borrow a car for the 40 minute trip home.
Three hours later the dealer rang to tell me the car had thrown a conrod and they had never heard of it before.A new motor needs to be imported and may take weeks :twisted:The only good thing is the dealer has amazingly found a loan car for me.You can imagine how happy I am. :blubber:

Sp let me get this right, they're giving you a brand new car 'without being asked'...   Pity you caught them on the wrong foot when you problem cropped up, I mean without a loan car for you.

I can't tell whether your happy or sad about this...  It is a bloomin nuisance for sure, but hey oh another new car to play with.   Also I can't determine whether your Occidental or Oriental, not that it matters a great deal....

Anyhow, good luck and let us kn wo when the new car arrives  :goodjob: :goodjob: :goodjob: :goodjob:

Welcome NTORU.. Sorry to meet you under these circumstances  :blubber:

ASA, put your glasses on man...  They finally found him a loan car (not a new replacement)

At least they are getting you a whole new motor not trying to repair your old one (although I guess a conrod failure would be fairly catastrophic  :faint:)

Please keep us posted.. Good luck for no more problems

Sad story and most unfortunate, hope they get you a new engine fast, and it'll be fine.

Really really unlucky. Definitey a new engine (would be surprised if you got a whole new motor).

Did you finish building your house btw?

A new motor needs to be imported and may take weeks

Can you confirm whether motor means a brand new car or just a new engine

Let me clarify for the non aussies here that a new motor is a new engine.
I was driving up a hill at 60 kph, just cruising in 3rd or 4th gear I think. The car has never been over reved or lugged.

To Shambles;Yes,I did finish my house. How do you know me?

We've not heard of any other engine problems before, I think I'm right in saying.

You were unlucky.

Slightly off topic, i have a feeling but can't really back it up with anything concrete (most unlike me :P), but the cars manufactured in the Czech Republic seem to suffer more serious problems than those made in Korea. Comments? A thrown conrod often pierces the engine block, I once saw a MkII jag that had thrown a rod at 70mph it had a 6inch diameter hole on the engine block... very impressive.

Ironically, this Australian delivered vehicle would be from Korea I suspect....

There definately seems to be more issues with the Czech cars overall though. I wouldn't say serious problems except for some of the paint issues (I would see the Shock absorber covers etc.. as more annoying than serious)

Use of he word "motor" to mean engine and not as an abbreviation of "motor car" is Oz but then mention of Boddingtons (I believe an English beer) is curious. The beer is available in Australia but I suspect our new member is in Oz and mentioned Boddingtons in the context of his reply to Shambles. ;)

throwing a conrod at 6000km sounds like it could be a manufature or assembly fault, someone missed a bolt somewhere, or a bearing.  or not enough oil since new.      throwing a conrod these days is very rare.

someone missed a bolt somewhere.......

Had this on my little Holden Barina. Someone had left out a bolt holding down the camshaft. I only happened to pick this up as I decided to check valve clearances at around the 40,000 - 50,000 kilometre mark.
So much for clearances having been checked while it was being serviced while under the 20,000k warranty!

I whacked in a bolt I happened to have laying around and never ever had an issue. The engine did 420,000 trouble free k's up until I disposed of it so obviously there was no ill effects....  :goodjob:

Bodingtons....  Bottom of my street turn left go bout 500 years and find the waste land which used to be 'Bodingtons' now brewed in a foreign land me thinks £2 a day to park your car there now...  Strangely I still get the scent of roasting hops drifting up across Strangeways Park, or is it just a reminiscence of time past <sniff sniff>

a main bearing seizing up will cause your engine to throw a conrod out the side of the block.  :scared: or as us Aussies say, throw a leg out of bed.

Or as racing driver John French once said, of the retirement of his Falcon from a race.
The car's got electrical trouble. A conrod came through the side of the block and damaged the alternator".

I got my car back from the dealer two days ago. They told me the main bearing area looked scuffed as though a lack of oil but there was plenty of oil in the engine. So I now have a brand new engine and starter motor.Hope there are no more problems, (https://www.i30ownersclub.com/forum/Smileys/default/icon_e_confused.gif)

I guess it's the law of probability. Make enough engines and sooner or later someone will make a mistake.

Let's hope that's the end of the matter.
