Really enjoyed the trip.
Looks a vey clean area
Is there a story behind the graffiti on the walls?
What was on the dash as it was reflecting on the screen?
Loved the videos. Looks really interesting and the city reminds me so much to some of the cities in Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia, Serbia.. (former Yugoslavian countries). You can really see the resemblance and it proves how the two countries had the same "system"..Thank you accim
P.S.: That guy in the Passat in the first video. Does he pass you again at the end of that video? Around 4:50 or smth like that. And was there something burning somewhere, that he had to overtake the truck in a place like that? :) That normally happens there? :D
P.S.2: A lot of car look quite dirty :-[ Was the weather bad or is it just the road being dirty all the time? I normally don't see that many dirty cars around here.. Usually everybody takes takes them to car wash once in a week or two weeks and the roads in cities are usually cleaned with the trucks-cleaners so the cars don't get that much dirt on them.

I have watched your videos placed here :goodjob2:, especially loved the one with two cars being steered by woman
No, that was a different car as the registration plates are different, unless the guy has got a device used by spies, that enables him to swap the plates around :D
Well, that is a style of driving, I was musing of overtaking that truck myself, but decided against.
Haha, okay I understand.
One more question.. In percentage, how many drives are men and how many women.. Just wondering.. Last day I was counting how it is in Slovenia -> took "50 vehicles pattern" (approx 50 vehicles going in an opposite direction) and did it twice (once in the morning and next time at around 17h (5pm)) and counted the female and male drives. In some cases the man/woman was driving alone, in some cases man was driving a woman and in some, woman was driving a man. Just regular situation.
The result was next:
at 8am there were 28 female drivers and 31 male drivers
at 5pm there were 29 female drivers and 36 male drivers
So, usually it's quite close 50:50. How is it in Russia?
Thanks for the Videos.. Nice to see you  :goodjob:
I also notice how dirty some of the cars were.. We have an unsealed driveway and sometimes don't wash our cars for month :-[ But never THAT dirty..
Another thing I noticed in one video was cars parked where they wouldn't be allowed over here .. The lane wasn't wide enough for two cars so you had to cross into the other lane a bit to get around them.. :sweating:
I meant like from around 1.20 in Video MOV412 ... :winker: (not in the yard of your apartment)That is allowed according to the rules: one may park a car unless it is forbidden by the sign, but the distance from the car side up to the center line, separating the traffic or if there is no one or in case of a dashed line (like we see on the video) up to the opposite margin of the road is to be not less than 3 meter.
I will have to watch it again later .. I didn't see any accident :whistler: Gee your roads are dark  Our highways that big have reflectors in the middle and down the sides mostly :goodjob:That what the video starts with, I'm passing by the cars standing in the center of the highway in the very beginning

meehalych: Good thing you weren't there 10/15 min earlier, a?Well I think those accidents happened at least one hour before I passed by that place as one can see a Police car standing there with roof lights on.

I'm not sure Russian police is that fast to arrive, whereas 1 hour is a more real time term
But police should be there in 10-15 min after the accident?
What do you mean with reflectors on the highway? I can't imagine you having reflectors all the way
What do you mean with reflectors on the highway? I can't imagine you having reflectors all the way
I will have to make more of a note on our next night trip, but certainly on highway between Burnie and Devonport (50Km) I think they are all the way.. Can't remember it being that dark and hard to see the edges and centreline..
Police within 15 minutes here too I would expect (unless it happened way out of town)
accim
What does that letter A placed in square drawn on the road at 4-th minute when you are turning right mean?
Oh the "A". It's just a sign, that tells you, that if you want to go to Austria (country), you should turn here right.. The Austrian/Slovenian border is around 20 km from there. I guess it's there, so the tourists, which were in let's say Kranj or around it, could find their way out of there easier.Ah, I thought it indicated either a bus stop or a lane for public transport only
Here is a video, that shows a possible Road police trap
from 02:10 minute
AMBA0447.MOV (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nGjt7iJe3k8#ws)
let me explain how:
That car, a taxi, without a rear place is parked in a place where it is impossible to pass by it without crossing a white line. Once a victim crosses the line, overtakes the car and comes back to the lane the car left behind starts moving, so having passed a short distance the first car is being stopped by the Police, who had stayed still awaiting for their prey and came alive once the car crossed the line, that entails driving license deprivation for the terms of 4-6 months (unless a bribe is paid, I guess). The car, a taxi, coming straight behind acts as a witness and a poor guy, a victim, has no evidences to prove his guiltlessness, unless he has a camcorder in the car.
What was said here is my supposition only, which have proved true in some cases.
So what happened there? Looks like you just passed a parked taxi; did he start off as you were passing him?No, fortunately, but I have read some stories from people, who were deprived of their licenses on that road.
At start there is a car with a yellow square with the exclamation mark - ! - on the rear window.
What is the significance of it, if any?
At 3:10'ish the carraigeway changes from 2 lanes to 1 lane yet I see cars are overtaking on a single carriage way but not crossing the line down middle of the road. Is this correct or are they taking a chance?
Your roads are definitely not boring, that's for sure :happydance:The life itself in Russia is far from being boring I would conclude. :D
Enjoyed.Ha, they are parked there, majority of them, the rest are waiting for the passengers as it is Kupchino underground station.
Around 19 minutes there are cars on the far right.
Are they parked up or are they in a queue?
Why are there so many trucks parked on the right lane at the begging? And also one more thing.. What's with the truck's rear wheel at 1:48 min (can be seen till 1:57). That doesn't seem okay? :whistler:Well I suppose it is because there is a meat factory in that area :)
:D getting ready for winter season

very good mate :rofl:I wonder what would have happened if one or all three wheels had been lost on a highway, that was where that car drew from.
I wonder what would have happened if one or all three wheels had been lost on a highway...
1) The Russian roads I have seen in the videos look FAR better than roads of the same type here in England
After this winter most of our roads will look like they have been under sustained mortar attack! :faint:Then you may feel yourself almost Russian :D
Couldn't really see the SUV but liked how the dog used the proper crossingfrom 2nd sec till 4-th on the left a black car with police one parked nearby
Dazzler
Ok, I'll let you know once I have happened to shoot something interesting :D
not much in the way of lines marked on the road. :faint:yep.
Looks interesting Misha (bookmarked) Got to do some gardening :confused:Watch the accidents

I just did  Gee a lot happens on your roads.. (another reason not to leave tassie) :happydance:But then you will never know what snow, and driving in winter is
I have driven in snow about twice in 37 years (fairly scary ) Pretty though :D
It's actually pretty funny when you can do corners with a little help from the handbrake :whistler:I have never tried this :whistler:

Me neither :whistler: :whistler:
I take it the lorry had "jack knifed" with the cab square onto the barrier. It just gently touched the barrier, though from the distance it looked like the cabin had burst through the barrier and hung in air
We had an exchange student from Finland stay with us for a year a few years ago but I've never been over there.Well, it's time to fly there then. With Finnish schengen visa you will be able to move to the neighboring countries, such as Norway and Sweden, not to mention all other countries of Europe.
..growing up to have a different perspective on things..
Can see the abulance and car behind but can't see what has actually happened.I don't know myself, but can only suppose. I think a pedestrian, while crossing the road was knocked down by car. I just can not understand the purpose of the second Police car, that blocks the half of the road :undecided:
Can you elaborate?
Unbelievable.. I'm guessing life insurance premiums would be very high in your country :sweating: :faint:Well, there are three types of car insurance in Russia:
1. Mandatory insurance (known as ОСАГО) - in case of car accident because of your fault, your insurance company will pay the repair expanses to the second side, but no more than 120000 rub (4000 USD roughly), unless the sum was extended to 1 million - 3 millions rubles. The price varies with region of registration and engine power.
If more than maximum amount does the guilty party have to pay the extra?
I've re-fitted my car camera to see what I can record... :-)a ghost, probably? :D
Probably... I certainly dont see anything like the events you do Meecha!Come to Russia and the life will become vivid for you again

You do seem to have a lot of low speed impacts in your area.
Do drivers play dodgems on the public highway....
:whsaid: :agreed: I've done 23,000 miles in my car now in 18 months, had the camera in for 8,000 of those miles & not seen or recorded a single noteworthy incident here in England.Does it mean I am more lucky than you? :P

You do seem to have lots of accidents expecially running into barriers or going at 90 degrees.we are not looking for the easiest ways :D
Why do vehicles in Russia have a problem going in "straight" lines.

two parts of that video are played with 2x speed
:scared: :scared:
From the photo's/vids posted it does seem as if the number of incidents is very high and drivers in Russia have a problem driving safely.
Do drivers have to pass a test in handling motorised vehicles to a safe and competent level?
They probably need a crash course in driving :whistler:
What was the speed limit?60km/h
Limit 60,,,,,,, you 76,,,,,,,, :TutTut:I had admitted it before, yes I do exceed speed limit, but no more than 19km/h, when a penalty is 100 rub only (3.2 USD). If the penalty is risen up to 1000 rub, I would try to maintain 69 km/h, when no penalty may be applied

So tougher penalties do work :lol:yes, mostly.
Do you guys have demerit points? No, not now, but there was a system of holes in USSR as far as I remember.
When we accumulate 12 points we lose our licence for three months.
He was in a hurry, can't you see.. :question:in the circumstances we use to saying: "the slower one drives, the farther one gets"

that is a strange driving
Dangerous driving too  far too close as well
did you notice Volvo moving too close towards Logan when it leveled with Renault?
I prefer to stay behind "drivers" like that.

Good pics Misha, nice to see some decent weather for a change too. How are you enjoying your car, qall ok I hope :)I do really enjoy driving it and it hasn't let me down yet (I adore cruise-control feature)
Why is it when you are in a traffic jam all lanes except yours seem to move forward and yours doesn't.it is only a work of your imagination; it is better to stay in one lane instead of changing them constantly, the latter may lead to an accident (you may see one in the video with Mazda and truck involved).
Then if you change lanes to the one that is moving faster than yours you are then in the slowest .............
Same happens in the supermarket checkout or any place I join a queue ......
Oh, the joys of driving citiesthe noise seems a little bit lower in Cee'd to me
BTW Misha, How would you compare the noise level of your new car to the old one
I really enjoyed that one :happydance: So glad we don't have to put up with that...Even during road works they manage the traffic flow really well down here usually :goodjob:thank you, Daz. Just imagine what would be there today in the evening, when everybody moves back to the city from countryside.
Or if you drove a right hand drive car :lol:yes :)
^ haha you have some cheeky drivers over there
I do, but what can I do?^ haha you have some cheeky drivers over there
:whsaid: Don't you just hate that
^ haha you have some cheeky drivers over there :lol:there are plenty of them when there is a traffic jam on the road, they typically excuse themselves by having an urgent affair or whatsoever
Not much I guess.. You need spikes that come out of your wheels (like a chariot) :rofl:I would prefer caltrops to be tossed when necessary :)
"caltrops" My new word for the day  (I had to google it) Yes, they would work :goodjob:
Good job your mate has great reactionshe was lucky as he hadn't gained speed - he likes fast driving
watching that I was wondering whether his car has ESP and traction control given the wet conditions?
Lada 2104
Everywhere you go there are accidents.:D
Are you sure you don't cause them?
Everywhere you go there are accidents.:D
Are you sure you don't cause them?
no
the more you drive, the more you see
I do 25,000kms a year and used to do a lot more (don't see a quarter of these incidents :P)as it is said:"one is unlikely to find Russian, who wouldn't like the fast driving"
hopefully the speed was low, so it enabled me to retain a control over my car.:sweating: :goodjob:
You were very calm there buddy, apart from the Russian F-bombs I heard ;)
That sort of manoeuvre happens here in the UK also and if it resulted in an accident it wouldn't be their fault but yours....I doubt it, she undertook a dangerous maneuver, which was shot by my camcorder, moreover she broke a rule when pulled over on that highway
I hope they remember to drop their undercarriage.:D :goodjob2:

the latter is known as "landing gears" here
I get frost bite just getting the peas out of the freezer.
Not me, no way :faint:was a humidity 75% or close too? :D
I've worked in -22 Deg C and it's not particularly comfortable. :fum:
Humidity 0 @ that temp :lol: you should definitely fly to Saint-Petersburg to feel the difference between -22°C humidity 0% and -22°C humidity 75%
^--- I think she was waiting for that parking space that you stole :lol:it had been empty long before I approached the traffic lights and pedestrian crossing :P
i just watched footage on the news that was filmed from a car cam,its of a plane in Russia crash landing and the debris covering a freeway/motorway at vnukovo airport. have you seen it Misha? :scared:yes I did, yesterday when I came home in the evening.
What could have happened? :undecided: Was that caused by high speed or summer tires or both?

I reckon he just couldn't understand what was written on the signs. I know I can't :P
I'm glad I don't drive in Russia.
today in Lappeenranta, FinlandYou need to reset the date on your camera :P
You need to reset the date on your camera :PHave just done it :)
Ouch
I'd have stopped to help... :whistler:
Ouch :eek:yes, it is a shame of me not to pull over to inquire about any help necessary, but I was damn shocked, moreover as Daz had noticed - it is a highway with an average speed about 120km/h.
I'd have stopped to help... :whistler:
Misha, that was close (glad you and your car were OK) :Shocked:yes it was, otherwise I would have known how the side airbags work should I had failed to spot it coming and shifted left a fraction.
I know.Huh!!! You Serious ????
I waved at you the other day. :D
Dammit, Trish wants one! :D
Dammit, Trish wants one! :D

Trish hasn't clarified that yet. :whistler:Just the Train Truck .. not the driver! :TutTut:Dammit, Trish wants one! :DWith a Russian driver included? :)
