PETROL / Re: I30 Petrol Fuel Pump Internal Corrosion

I'm inclined to agree with you. It seems to be ingress from the environment rather than the internal effect of contaminated fuel.

PETROL / I30 Petrol Fuel Pump Internal Corrosion
« Last post by vilro03 March 27, 2024, 07:04:55 »
Hi All!

I had my 2019 i30 serviced (60k) and, while changing the fuel filter, the dealership sent me these pictures of the corrosion in the fuel pump.

They say ‘bad fuel’. I said that sort of corrosion would have to be over a long period of time and it’s more likely water making its way into the pump through the seal or a crack.

Has anybody seen this before, or can you explain it?

I live in southern mainland Australia, not too hot, not too cold. Car parked outside but under cover, near the sea.

Have asked for it to be fixed under warranty. Waiting on their reply.

Looking forward to your replies.

Thanks.

@Gazza-75
Terrific effort & write up, alas the beat goes on.

Lets ASSUME it is a faulty radar module, I would think it's plausable that statutory warranty would apply to it, even though the car is no longer under factory warranty any longer.  Statutory warranty in simple terms states that its reasonble to expect that the item would not have failed given the period of time & cost of the item.

I don't think a radar module should have failed after 7yrs.  Its not a consumable part.

Anyway we don't know if it's failed yet - and is an inexact area but I don't think it's certain you'd be liable for the cost.

UPDATE:
So, it's easier than I thought to remove the front bumper. I have now done the following but the issue remains:

1. Inspected the radar unit and no damage or shift to its original position as far as I can tell.
2. Removed, inspected, and then re-attached the wiring harness from end to end (4 connectors all up). No damage or broken wires. I will do a continuity test on the wiring when I have more time.
* The wiring goes to 2 separate units/sensors which I'm not sure of their function. I have attached pictures.
3. Cleaned the radar which wasn't really dirty anyway but the car still display the AEB error.

I thought I'd disconnect the radar and then the car only complained about the cruise control systems, which leads me to believe the radar unit is faulty/dead. Not sure how I can test this without stripping someone else's car and swapping the unit out.

Still a bit reluctant to go to Hyundai as I've heard that radar unit is thousands.

Hi @Bob.W , I've done some more digging on the internet and for the most part, the issue seems very likely to be the radar going out of alignment. I am in the process of removing my bumper to check out the radar and bracket but may take a day or two as I'm doing it during coffee and lunch breaks.

Hmmm thats interesting.  Not sure how the radar module, which IIRC is bolted to the front collision/torsion bar, would go out of alignment?  Its behind the grille, badge etc and you'd think it'd take a fair old whack to hit it hard enough to twist & unalign it.

I know I've certainly not had any frontal impacts of any sort recently that could account for such a movement - but I will be interested to see what you find out.  Thank you for posting up your info & findings.

Thanks for keeping us updated.  Sounds like a tricky one.  Hopefully there's a better outcome at Suttons.

car is booked with Tony at Roselands Automotive Centre next Monday 25 March. Will advise outcome. Today of course my car is good as gold.

Tony advised that all the electronics seemed to be ok and  he could not find out what the problem is without completely dismantling the doors. He had not heard of this problem before. He recommended that I go to Hyundai as they should  have more knowledge ! (I hope) He said he could install a new door lock but could not guarantee that this would fix the problem.
So, car is now booked into Suttons at Arncliffe on April 4th and i am hoping they can identify and fix it. I was advised the inspection fee is $198. Updates to follow

Hi everyone, I'm new to the i30 Owner's Club and have a question regarding a little niggling problem my 2013 GD 1.8 Petrol Auto has recently developed.

Whilst on a country drive about a fortnight ago, I hit an awkward bump in the road, though the car made it back to my residence without any issue after hitting the bump.

However, in the time since, my car has developed a niggling annoyance that hasn't impacted the performance of the car, however I am unsure as to whether it is a problem that might develop into something severe.

Whilst I am stopped in traffic or waiting at a red light, my engine intermittently stutters, sending a shudder through the car. However, when the car is at speed, it runs smoothly without any stutter in the engine (as normal).

When the issue first appeared, the issue was most noticeable while the car was in reverse, as the car would lurch whilst it was in reverse, and also whilst I was in drive at low carpark speeds, however the problem cleared when I got up to road speed. These issues have since cleared, though the car now idles rough as listed in the previous paragraph.

I am not sure if this problem is a common problem with i30's, or whether hitting the bump was a direct cause or just a coincidence, but I would like some answers as to whether this is a serious issue or not.

I have only had the car for just over three months, and it has just over 145 000km on the odometer.

I also do quite a bit of travel for work, so I am keen to hear any feedback on what any potential issues could be from people who have owned an i30 for a lot longer than myself, especially given this i30 will be doing quite a few kilometres while I own it - and I do not want to break down whilst on a big road trip through rural/regional Australia. I also study 4 hours away from home, and drive between home in the NSW Hunter region and my university accommodation in Canberra during winter and summer.

Thank you in advance for your advice.
