It's gotten worse  :workitout:

It's got a LOT worse and will continue to do so...   It is something like a ponzi scheme it start with folks like Alan and I, we're retired and we want out pensions.  I can't speak for Alan but I paid into the scheme from 1959 till I retired, I have earned my pension.  The thing is, there aren't enough workers now paying the taxes to pay us our pension, so, the government (of any stripe)  open the gates and let people, most of whom are happy to go to work, usually for less, and pay taxes ergo Alan and I get the pay cheque each month then sit round moaning about all the foreigners.   It'd be funny if it weren't so bloody pathetic.

I would be happy to return to work, I still do a little, and send all the foreigners back but that ain't never gonna happen is it ?    Cos if all the foreigners had to go home, then we'de be overrun with bloke with Ozzie accents servings us in Wall Mart, perish the thought.

There is something seriously wrong with the U.K. & the Australian system but don't get me started.
I'll leave it at that.

Anyone else in the UK hear about the Polish kids getting £80 / month sent to their parent from the UK benefits agency if the father is in UK?

I dont know the full details but I did hear that in Poland the cost of living is so low that the equivalent payment from the Polish authorities is £20 / month....

Now I know this isnt any fault of the Polish folks themselves but the stupid UK / EU laws we slavishly follow here...  :fum:

That's not bad.
Every "minor" who arrives in Australia as an asylum seeker is given $3000 of tax payer's money to purchase "entertainment" such as computer games, etc.
And I know that is true because I heard the federal immigration minister admit the fact on radio.
Bloody disgraceful.
My kids never got that but then they were born here and I provided for then.
Plus there is a backlog of literally years of individual asylum seekers suing the Australian government (us) for the trauma caused by their "incarceration" in detention centres because they are never able to work again.
I listened to an interview with one of the many lawyers queuing up to represent them and he said they are "years behind" in settling these claims and they are averaging one million dollars of tax payers' money for each one:Shocked:
They are settling them out of court to avoid the publicity.
Again, I heard it myself from one of the civil rights lawyers who was representing them.

I have no idea why ANYONE is paid child benefit in this day and age...   If ya can't afford to bring children up, don't have any.  <sigh>

I agree.
Why should tax payers pay others to have kids?
It has spawned almost an industry over here of single mothers having kid after kid because of all the handouts.
One could be a mistake, two, three, four or five is deliberate.

Same here, I'm less radical, I think any married couple (OMG dont kill me for that) should be able to have 1 child, and have benefit for that 1 child... after all we do need future Taxpayers lol!

But I dont see why anyone should get benefits for however many more kids couples (or singles for that matter) should decide they want.

I dont get why everyone is so upset about the horsemeat thing to be honest,
40 years ago I had horse meat on hoilday in Spain.

At the time didn't realise it was horsemeat as the menu was in spanish.

Loved it even when I was told afterwards what it was.

We eat all types of animals so what the fuss about as as far as I know no one has been take ill from eating "burgers" .............

Aint that the truth... and if anyone is hungry enough they'll eat what they can.
Thing is we "personalise" some animals so it becomes difficult to see them as food.
Not many personalise the "normal" food meats (yes I know there will be some that do) and I say they will find it hard to eat them too!

It's just meat folks... but we do deserve to know which meat and pay for it appropriately...

Gotten is not U.S. slang at all. It's a regular English past participle that most of you lot have forgotten (or should that be forgot?). English has evolved differently in all the countries that speak it. Some things added and some things dropped however it's a little insular to suggest that only that currently spoken in England is correct. Even if that were true, which part of England is the reference?

I do agree though that the English spoken in America has gotten much worse since it was entrusted to them.  :snigger:
