Hello fellow i30 owners,

I have a 2019 i30 yes! plus.

I am not sure whether anyone has had such a problem. When I turn on the car, the turn signals function normally without an issue. However, after a certain amount of drive time (let's say 20-30 mins), the left turn signal stops working for a while (10-15 mins) and then comes back on like there was no problem. The hazards or the key lock signals function without an issue. They always work.

The frequency becomes shorter with the prolonged drive. For example, 30 minutes on, 15 minutes off, 20 minutes on, 15 minutes off, 10 minutes on, 15 minutes off, and so on. :crazy1:

I believe it is a thermal issue, that the board elements heat up and stop working until they cool down again, but I wanted to ask the i30 owners if it is a known issue.

Thank you for the answers beforehand. All the best.

Not had this problem myself or anything like it.
I'm wondering if the hazards and keyfob indication rules out the flaher units/relays but may point upstream to the indicator stalk switch or its wiring ? Have you tried moving the stalk a few times when left indicators are unresponsive?
Others on here with more auto electrics knowledge may be better help.

Thank you for your response. Absolutely. I tried jiggling, wobbling, and pressing the stalk many times, but nothing helped. I know a repairman where I live, and he ordered the wiring and electrical schematic of the car from Hyundai. We will see.

These types of issues are the worst. When completely broken, we could quickly discover the problem, but this is a complete mess.

Yes. Intermittent faults tend to misbehave by not appearing whenever you visit a repair shop. Result: No fault found. :(

Hello everyone,

The problem is resolved. It was a mechanical failure in the stalk’s internal switch (spring), not a bulb, fuse, or relay issue. The stalk wasn’t completing the circuit, so nothing downstream (dashboard indicator or external blinkers) got the signal. It’s the internal spring that was expanding/twisting under stress with excessive usage, temporarily breaking the connection. And it was recovering itself after cooling off. The mechanic said it is a super rare case but not unheard of, especially if the spring was slightly deformed from the start.

Yeah, and the solution was changing the stalk completely. It was an OEM piece, plus an official Hyundai service, which cost 450 Euros. I have the second-hand dealer guarantee, so nothing was paid from my side, but it was not a cheap repair overall.

Enjoy driving
