Title: Replacing the 'space saver' spare wheel
Post by: AEdwards59 on May 09, 2019, 03:35:36
About to finally take delivery of a manual N Line. I too am not a fan of the space saver and have been considering my options. Given the limited scope to buy a used 18" SR wheel I was considering seeing if a standard 16" i30 rim would fit as it has pretty much the same rolling diameter and would be a far better short term option than the dinky space saver . Keen to learn peoples thoughts.

I'm not a fan of space savers. But i am happier with the extra 4-6 inches of cargo space with the floor in the lower position.

My thoughts exactly. How often do you get punctures these days as well..

Agree, and so what if you can only do 80km/h. The world moves too fast as it is. So chill out about it, it's only gonna be a day or so of your whole entire life.

I have two issues with them.
1. The rolling diameter is significantly smaller on all the ones I have seen.
2. If you are on a long country trip, and the tyre you've damaged is unrepairable, you'd better hope it's  a size available in the next town.

1. All the space savers i know of are basically size matched. You should see the size of some Mazda SUV ones, they're huge.
Just pulled a brand new Rav4 one out and sat it beside road wheel abd it was same size.

2. I knew someone would say this. On a long country trip i would need the extra space more than ever (specifically talking about my circumstance on this on)

Glad they fixed the size thing.
I saw some horrendous differences up till I stopped work in about 1012.
Ford Focus was one.
Another was my 2003 Subaru Impreza.

You look great for a man in his 70's but I reckon I would have noticed the smell of decomposition when we had lunch together last month if you were 1070 something...  :snigger:
